Whole House Redo - Exterior Paint

F house Hanford Alphabet Houses

I didn't forget the outside of the house in my whole house redo I've been slowly working through!

Much of the yard type stuff will have to wait as winter is on the way!! Let's start with a before of my house...

It's ok... but a little boring... The whole thing is white... white body, white trim... blah. The only color is the red roof which you can kind of see in the next picture.

Here is the after. I chose Benjamin Moore "Storm" for the gray body color and "Simply White" for the trim.

It made a WORLD of difference don't you think?!

I have plans to paint the front door to coordinate with the red roof soon.

In case you are interested, my house is one of what they call the "Alphabet Houses", it's an "F" house. I live in Washington State where the Hanford Nuclear Reservation is. This is were they made the plutonium that was used in the Fat Man Bomb that ended WWII.

And you guessed it, there was a house for every letter in the alphabet and they were built to accommodate the tremendous growth in population at the Hanford site during World War II.

The architect was given less than 90 days to completely design an entire new community, including streets, utilities, and commercial and residential building plans. Each housing design was assigned an alphabet letter designation and included single-family homes, duplexes, apartments, and dormitories.

Here are some fun facts about my house (mine was built in 1944):

Single Family Dwelling
Two Story
Three Bedrooms ~ One Bathroom
250 Homes Built: 1943 - 1945
1948 Rent: $50.00 (Oh my! Wish rent was that much now)!
Contractor: Smith, Hoffman & Wright Company, Portland, OR

Here is the original floor plan and sketch:

And look... we can even order a Christmas ornament of our house! I have to get one!
