How to Make a Garden Hose Wreath

22 July
Here at Little Vintage Cottage, we are all about DIY, and turning trash into treasures is one of my favorite pastimes!

Anyone who owns or rents a house (and maybe even an apartment if you have outdoor plants) has a garden hose, and those hoses eventually wear out.

So, today I'm sharing how to make a wreath from an old hose.

These are great for hanging on the door but try dressing up a fence or gate with one, you'll love it! 😃

Supplies Needed to Make Your Own:

You may already have an old hose lying around but if not, check with family, friends, and neighbors.

I found two old hoses to try. The green one is short (I'd say about 10 feet) and came from a free pile at a garage sale, the yellow one is from the old farm dump that we like to go to. I tried to make a second wreath with the yellow hose but it kept kinking... maybe that's why it was at the dump 😂

Follow these steps to create your wreath:

Step 1 - create the wreath shape.

To begin, start rolling the hose into a wreath shape the size that you want and secure it with a couple of zip ties.

TIP: If your hose is too long, you can cut one or both ends and tuck that into the flowers so it won't show but roll it up to the size you think you want BEFORE you cut it!

Step 2 - Create a flower arrangement.

You can find lots of fake flowers at the thrift stores and the Dollar Store, but I did link to some on Amazon in the supply list above if you are having trouble finding some you like.

I have an old suitcase full of them so I picked out a few that I thought would look nice.

Test out what you have by laying them in place and once you have found an arrangement that pleases you secure the flowers together with green florist wire. Create the flower arrangement separate from the hose, we'll secure it to the hose in a minute.

You will probably need to cut down some of the stems on your flowers so if you're like me and you like to use up every bit of supplies you have, you can use those stems to make little tendrils to tuck in among the flowers.

To make these wrap the wire stem around a pencil, slide it off, and then pull it apart slightly to lengthen it.

Tuck those into the arrangement and hook one end around another stem to secure.

Step 3. Add the flowers to the hose.

Secure the floral arrangement to the hose with more zip ties or green florist wire. I do not recommend using hot glue or craft glue, it won't last.

Continue adding greenery to fill out the arrangement if you'd like and secure it with more florist wire.

Step 4. Add details.

Choose some cute garden-related items to add to your wreath. I chose garden gloves and a small terracotta flower pot but a little shovel or rake would be cute too.

Use florist wire to secure the gloves over the center area of your flower arrangement by wrapping the wire around the center area of the gloves.

After wiring them onto the hose pull the tops and bottoms out and to the sides a little bit to separate them so you can tell they are gloves.

The Terracotta pot is then attached in the same manner over the top of the gloves. Use wire again and thread it through the hole in the bottom of the pot to secure it to the wreath.

This hides the wire on the gloves and you can use some coordinating ribbon to hide the wire holding the pot onto the wreath. Just thread it through the hole in the bottom of the pot and tie it at the top, over the wire.

Step 5. Add a hanger.

I used another piece of ribbon to hang my wreath but you can use wire if you prefer. Tie it around a piece of the hose toward the back.

Now you can hang up your cute new garden wreath, I hung mine on my backyard gate!
