Interior Door Makeover with Peel & Stick Wallpaper

Hi :o) How is your short week after the 4th of July holiday progressing? Mine is still moving slow but the weekend is almost here!

Today I'm sharing a quick makeover of the door from my dining room into the garage.

Update a door with wallpaper

Almost every door in my house is a cheap hollow-core door and many of them have damage. This door is no exception, it had some pretty bad damage when I first moved in. See all the wood filler around the molding? You can't see it in this picture but the area around the door knob was broken and held together with screws!

Right after I moved in I painted it white which helped a lot.

I had some leftover peel & stick wallpaper from the chalkboard dresser makeover so I thought I'd try it on the door! I didn't have anything to lose... if it didn't look good I could just peel it off!

I removed the door knob because as you can see it was hideous and also needed a makeover!

Here is the door after adding the wallpaper.

Still no knob though!

The door knob got a coat of Hammered Metal Spray Paint by Rust-Oleum. If you are on a tight budget this is such an easy and inexpensive way to get "new" knobs. One can will do all the knobs in your house if need be!

Doesn't it look nice now?

And here is the finished door!

This is such a quick and easy project and now the plain hollow-core door makes a much more dramatic addition to the room!

Have you ever thought of using peel & stick wallpaper for a door?

  2. Looks great, years ago I added wallpaper to old door insets. Really changed the look. I had never considered doing a whole door but it really adds oomph w/o lots of $. I have seen other examples of painted door knobs and would love this in my home. I just don't know if I could take one apart and even more important, put it back together.

    1. Thanks Carol! It's so easy to take apart a regular door knob. It's just two screws and then you have each side of the door knob and the center part that latches the door, nothing to it! You should totally try it, I think you'd be surprised.
