7 Days of Thrift Shop Flips for National Thrift Shop Day - Day 7 - Vintage Salt Shaker

21 August
Well the end is here, today is the final day of 7 Days of Thrift Shop Flips in honor of National Thrift Shop Day (August 17th). I've had a lot of fun preparing these posts to share with you and it has made me get off my butt and finish some projects that have been on my to-do list for awhile :o)

Salt Shaker Button Bouquet

Today's project started with a very simple orphaned old salt shaker. I picked this up for .75 cents at the same little thrift shop I told you about yesterday.

I gathered up a few more supplies that I needed for this project.
  • Heart punch (or flower punch)
  • White buttons
  • Wire
  • Vintage book page
  • Glue (not pictured)
  • Wire cutters (not pictured)
  • Pearl beads (not pictured)

I started by punching some hearts. These will become petals for some cute button flowers. If you have a flower shaped punch that would make this even easier,  don't happen to have one.

Glue three hearts together like so...

Next glue a large button on top of your flower petals.

Take a length of wire (mine was about 8" long) and poke it through from the back.

Add another smaller button on top of the first.

Add another, even smaller button on top of that so you have three stacked buttons. Then loop the wire and poke it back down through the second set of holes.

It should look like this. You need one long end and one shorter end sticking out from the backside of your flower.

Next wrap the shorter end around the longer end and twist it tight.

It should look about like this now.

Here is my row of adorable button flowers. :o)

Next take the salt shaker and fill it about 1/2 way full of pearl beads.

Put the lid back on and poke the wire flower stems down into the beads through the holes on the lid and you have an adorable salt shaker button bouquet!

I added a little bow from a piece of vintage seam binding tape to finish it off.

If you don't have beads I think glitter would be pretty in the shaker too!

These would be super cute in different colors too!

What do you think?

This week full of thrift shop flip projects has been so fun, I hope you enjoyed it as well! If you missed any of the projects you can see them all below:

  2. Okay, that is stinking adorable! I happen to have a lone vintage salt shaker. Now I know what do do with it! All of your items turned out so nice, as usual. I really like the teapot spice rack. This week of transformations has given me a ton of new ideas. Thank you for sharing with us.

  3. Beautiful bouquet! But, I do have to admit, the flashcard caught my eye - being a retired teacher. LOL Great way to reuse a lone salt shaker - love it!

  7. These are all great Tania! I've checked them all out and found them all so creative and fun. Question: I read somewhere in your several posts on thrift store makeovers about a site I could go to and get a listing of all the thrift stores in my area, but I can't find it again. Do you know where I saw it and could you direct me to it? I would SO appreciate it as I've been a thrift-store shopper for ages and want to know if I've missed any good ones. Thanks!
