Nightstand Makeover with Fabric & Paint

Hello, how is your weekend going?

I'm taking a short break from Christmas today to share my most recent furniture makeover, a nightstand that I used both fabric and paint on to give it a new look!

This cute nightstand got a makeover with paint and fabric!

This was my daughter's old nightstand. She found one in hot pink one and no longer wanted this one. While it isn't really vintage (probably late 1990's), I still thought it could benefit from a makeover and probably look pretty cute!

I removed the pulls and gave it a couple coats of antique white paint. Since this is sort of a plain Jane little nightstand I wanted something to give it a little character. I chose to use fabric on the top and drawer fronts.

I used Mod Podge Waterbase Sealer, Glue and Finish (16-Ounce), CS11302 Matte Finish to adhere the fabric to the dresser. One coat on the dresser, placed the fabric on that and then went over the top of the fabric with another coat.

This worked really well for the top of this nightstand too because it had a few bubbles and flaws in the wood on top that showed through the paint.

I used Charcoal craft paint on the pulls to match the darkest lettering on the fabric.

Here is a side-by-side before and after comparison.

I think it looks much better, what do you think?

  7. Thanks Brenda, I haven't tried decoupaging fabric onto furniture before but it was super easy, even easier than paper I think!

  9. Thanks Tuula! It was super easy too because I didn't have to paint the whole piece, only where the fabric wasn't going to be!!
