Updated 1960's Kitchen Reveal

06 January
If you've been around LVC for long then you know I've been working on updating my dated 1960's kitchen and today I'm super excited to share the final reveal with you!

You better get a cup of coffee or tea and make yourself comfortable because there are LOTS of beautiful after pictures and some before shots too!

Let's first have a little reminder of what it looked like when I moved in.

While it doesn't look too bad in this picture, in reality, it really didn't look that good... that's a whole lotta wood cupboards and they weren't in the best condition in some places!

And here is what it looks like now (ignore that little wooden pull in the top left corner... that's the ceiling fan pull and that fan is next on the chopping block)!

For the remodel portion I hired a contractor to do the hard work that I am not comfortable with... moving a bank of awkwardly placed drawers, installing a new dishwasher, new farmhouse sink and gooseneck faucet, and counters). You can see much of what happened in this post: Kitchen Makeover - The Before and My Inspiration.

Sorry for the poor picture quality, this is from the real estate listing for the house.

After the contractor was done I painted the cupboards. I used Olympic One brand paint which is a paint and primer in one. The uppers are Arctic Cotton and the base cabinets are City Storm.

If you look at the picture above you can see that where the dishwasher used to be there are now drawers. Both the dishwasher and the drawers were in awkward places so they were switched out.

I'm not so sure that most people could see my vision for an open shelving look when I took the doors off! 😂

Updated 1960's Kitchen Reveal

Honestly, I doubted myself a little bit too but I love how it turned out!

Updated 1960's Kitchen Reveal

I painted inside the open cupboards with the same grey from the base cabinets.

I took out the old backsplash and created a shiplap backsplash. See that post here: DIY Shiplap Kitchen Backsplash.

Once that was done I installed a new magnetic knife holder.

I also tiled the area behind the stove. I used tiles from Wayfair, unfortunately they don't carry then anymore but they have some really beautiful one's HERE. See that post here: How to Tile a Backsplash.

My new farmhouse sink is such a dream, I can wash the largest pots and pans and even the dog gets a bath in here now!

I made the macrame kitchen curtain here: DIY Macrame Kitchen Curtain.

I shared how I like to decorate my open kitchen cupboards with a fun little slideshow here: Decorating Open Kitchen Cupboards.

Notice where the dishwasher is now... this is where the bank of drawers was. So it was difficult to stand at the sink and load the dishwasher when the door was open and hard to open two drawers at the same time in this corner!

I created more open cupboard storage here with some pretty baskets. The grey handles match the cupboards perfectly!

The baskets hold small kitchen appliances.

I  hung my cutting boards on the end of the cabinet and added some Moroccan details to one in this post: DIY Moroccan Cutting Board & How to Display Your Cutting Boards.

I wasn't planning on getting a new refrigerator for a while but the old one was leaking and to be honest, just looked so ugly with all the newness and white cupboards around it!

I got this one on sale for a great price!

I replaced the dated lighting with these cute upcycled colander lights here: How to Replace a Light Fixture.

I added some adorable tassel magnets and a llama notepad to the fridge... because every fridge needs cute magnets!

I relocated the microwave above the oven. I am tall so this works for me. I just cut down the cupboard door and added a dividing board at the same level where the shelf inside is.
