My New Etsy Shop - Something Special Bears
05 January
I opened a new Etsy shop!
One of the things I like to do is make teddy bears. I used to make them a lot and I guess I must have gotten burnt out... plus I didn't have a place to sell them (that was before Etsy)... so I stopped making them for several years.
But I always think about it, they are really fun to make and you just never know how they are going to turn out. It all depends on what kind of fur you use, eye and ear placement, etc. So seeing how they develop is always fun :o)
I still have one of my earlier bears, I thought I'd share her because she makes me smile every time I look at her. I took these pictures with my cell phone so I apologize for the clarity issues.
I made her with curly mohair and her paw pads are vintage bomber jacket leather (if you don't know what mohair is and would like to learn about it, hop over to my bear facebook page and look at this article. While you're there you can 'like' my page if you want ;o)
Her nose is hand embroidered with pearl cotton floss and her eyes are vintage boot buttons. She is five-way jointed.
She is wearing a vintage doll dress...
... held together with a vintage enamel flower pin (the button was missing).
Who's adorable? "I am, I am!"... lol... oh, sorry... got side tracked playing with my toys! :o)
I decided it was time to start making some bears again so I opened up my new Etsy shop awhile ago and it dawned on me that I haven't ever shared that here... not that everyone will be into teddy bears but you might like to look anyway! :o)
These are much different than the one I showed up above. This one is made with a vintage band-aid tin and snowy-white mohair!
Many of them have unique, hand-sculpted clay arms and legs like this little cutie. His vest is made from a shirt sleeve cuff!
Silky black mohair...
And some are made with vintage kitchen spice tins! :o)

Oh, those are all too cute! I love teddy bears and have a small collection of them but never thought to make one. I'll have to think about that.
