My Vintage Trailer - New Ceilings & Seats

02 January
Hello! Are you ready to see some more progress on my vintage trailer renovation?

So far we've taken a tour of her when we first brought her home: My Vintage Trailer - A Tour Before the Renovation.

And then I shared the beginnings of the renovation which involved lots of cleaning and sanding 😣: My Vintage Trailer - Beginning the Renovation.

Today I'm sharing what we did to the ceiling and the new dinette cushions I made.

Reupholstered dinette cushions for my vintage trailer

First, let's check out the dinette cushions.

Here is what they looked like before. They had been reupholstered sometime in the late 80's early 90's most likely.

Whoever did them did a really nice job... but the fabric was just ugly and didn't go with anything else in the trailer... well except for the lavender fuzzy dice hanging above the table in the picture above!

The foam inside was still in really good shape so I used the existing covers for a pattern and reused the zippers to make new covers with some cute aqua plaid fabric.

I wanted something that looked a little more retro, went with the aqua appliances, and that gave a nod to the Scotsman name so aqua tartan plaid it was!

They really weren't hard to make at all, just straight stitches in a box shape. The hardest part was the zipper and once you learn how to put in a zipper it's a breeze!

I actually worked on these at the same time that we were working on the actual trailer itself. The trailer was at my parent's house and when we weren't working on it, I would work on the details like these at home.

I was test fitting the new cushions in these pictures, you can tell by the ugly unpainted walls.

My mom and I set up the dinette and put one of her vintage tablecloths and a vintage yellow picnic set on the table, sort of a mock set up... I was dying to get into the actual decorating at this point so this was fun to pretend... and then we took it all out and got back to the dirty work!

Here's a fun before and after shot.

Next up... the ceiling!!

This is how the ceiling looked after sanding. You can see that I had already painted the walls with crisp white.

I decided to use textured wallpaper on the ceiling to get the feel of a vintage tin ceiling!

I can't find this exact pattern on Amazon but there are lots of really cool textured wallpapers that have the look of old ceiling tiles like the one I chose.

The wallpaper was pre-pasted but it just.would.not.stick. no matter what we did so I bought some heavy duty Wallpaper Adhesive and that did the trick. But boy was it a lot of work. Weird angles and corners and arms over the head for long periods of time is brutal!

It's kind of hard to see in the pictures because it's white but it looks so pretty in real life!

By the time we got to this part of the renovation it was starting to get cold out at night so after we hung the wallpaper we put a small space heater inside the trailer on low overnight.

The wallpaper was still on the ceiling the next morning so we could finally uncross our fingers! It was iffy for awhile if it would work or not!

So now that the dinette has new cushions and the ceiling is looking beautiful, next up I'll share what we did for the counters and tabletop, the couch cushions, and the curtains!

Until then I picked out some more fun camping/glamping books that you might like!
