DIY Easter Basket

25 March
Let's talk about Easter baskets.

I love a unique Easter basket... one that isn't like every other basket you see this time of year. I also love an inexpensive Easter basket... and if it's handmade, well all the better!

So, today I'm sharing an Easter basket that is all of those things... unique, inexpensive, and handmade!

It's made from a recycled tissue box and I just happened to have a pretty little tissue box that was almost empty!

This was so quick and easy and if you have children or grandchildren, I bet they would love this Easter craft!

Tissue boxes have some really pretty designs sometimes. Check out what else I've made with them here:

Supplies To Make Your Own:

I prefer the generic, store-brand tissues because a) they are cheaper and b) they usually have the brand printed on the bottom!

To make this tissue box into an Easter basket, follow the steps below:

Step 1 - Remove the top

First, cut the top off of the tissue box.

Step 2 - Cover any brand markings

The tissue box that I used had some of the advertising from the bottom that was just a tiny bit visible when the box was standing up so I decided to cover the bottom edge with Washi tape.

If you need to do this, you can use washi tape or scrapbook paper. Wide washi tape worked great for mine. I wrapped it around the box leaving half of the tape hanging over the bottom and then folded it over the edge.

Step 3 - Stabilize the box

If your box has come apart a little when you removed the top, you can stabilize it a bit with glue.

I used a little craft glue inside the corners to stabilize mine and then used some small clamps and allowed it to dry. Leave the middle unglued so you can add the handle later.

Step 4 - Make the handle

While that is drying, make the handle. Cut a strip of cardboard to the length you want your handle to be and then cut two strips of felt cut just a little wider than the cardboard strip.

Use craft glue to sandwich the cardboard strip between the felt strips.

Glue the handle down between the two layers of the sides of the tissue box (between the corners you glued above).

I stapled mine too for extra strength.

Step 5 - Decorate

Decorate your box! I added some washi tape along the top edge so it would be a little more decorative instead of just a boring brown box.

Add some embellishments of your choice to cover the staples for the handle. I used some paper flowers. You can find similar mulberry paper flowers HERE.

I also added some fun plastic flowers! (I've had these for a long time and couldn't find them anywhere but I think these resin cabochon flowers would be so cute!)

I used my Paper Tagger to attach the flowers. A paper tagger attaches things with the little plastic things like those used to attach price tags to clothing!

I made a hole first (kind of like pre-drilling 😂) with my crop-a-dile tool because it punches through thick layers like this like it's butter! If you've been following me long then you know I use this thing ALL. THE. TIME... I've even used it to punch metal!

Both of the flowers I chose had a hole in the center so I stuck the needle of the paper tagger through both of those and then push it through the hole you made and squeeze!

CUTE!! 😀

Rick-rack trim or ribbon added to the handle is a cute touch.

Step 6 - fill it up

Add some Easter grass and Easter treats for the recipient!

You could make this for boys too with a more masculine tissue box!
