I love going to our local Habitat for Humanity Store. It's a great place to find furniture and building materials in smaller quantities (and for a lot cheaper than new), plus it helps create a greener world and lowers your carbon footprint.
I don't need any furniture, but I still like looking. Maybe I'll find something better than I already have one day 🤷On this trip, I found a cute little round stool with a padded top; at only $5.00, it was the perfect candidate for a fun makeover!

Supplies Used:
This is the stool as I found it at the Habitat store. Miss Gretchen is checking it out here 🐶
I used a hammer to remove the trim covering the top edge of the stool. After removing the top, it looked like this stool was handmade!
Then I gave it a light sanding.
I used a rattan wicker cane stencil that I got from Lotties Vintage Home on Etsy to give it a fun look.

This vintage horse tapestry is what I'm using to recover the top of the stool.
I used the old vinyl stool top as a pattern and cut a piece from the tapestry.
I stapled the tapestry circle that I cut onto the top of the stool over the old foam; it was still in good shape, just a little yellowed.
So far, so good!
The wood seemed a little thirsty and dull, so I used Howard's Feed-N-Wax to condition it. Ideally, I should have done this before adding the new fabric top but this is how things go sometimes when you're totally wingin' it! 😂
Can you see the difference? 😀
I had to get creative with the trim to cover the stapes because the old wood trim was very beat up and missing pieces.
After thinking about this for a while, I decided to use some fringe that I had on hand. I attached it with hot glue.
Here is the finished stool!
I like the way it turned out. What do you think?
I have some more stools that I think I'll use more of this tapestry on, and list them in
my shop.
