Ever since I shared my Boho Bedroom Reveal I am pretty much obsessed with getting that same feel in my living room! There are all kinds of things changing around here. I sold my Ikea sectional and bought a new, normal size couch, I found the comfiest side chair on Craigslist for $50, and plans are formulating in my head as we speak.

As I'm obsessing planning how to get that look and feel I've been pouring over some of my favorite books and I thought you might be interested in them as well! So, I've created a little book review telling you why I love these!

Books for those who love Bohemian decor

Do you sometimes feel like you don’t have a real “style” when it comes to home décor? Like you don’t really fit into the popular trends? If you’re like me, you think you’ve nailed it only to get all starry-eyed over something that does NOT fit in with your décor and now you have to start all over recreating your home! My motto is this… stop trying to fit yourself into that little box…

“It’s your home, don’t be afraid to color outside the lines!”

These books are all about helping you discover your personal style.

I'm going to start with the one I am focused on right now, and the newest one to the stack... domino: Your Guide to a Stylish Home, discovering your personal style and creating a space you love, by domino editors Jessica Romm Perez and Shani Silver.

Here is an excerpt from the book that really hit home with me:
So many people decorate for others - they're concerned about outside opinions and wanting to impress. But you don't live in a hotel. You're not decorating for the gala of the century. It's your home, and it should feel like a home -- with character and imperfection and all the things that make you happy.
I have not finished reading it (yes, it's a design book that you can actually read... much more than just pretty pictures!) yet but I am into this book like a normal person get's into a juicy novel... I can't put it down!

Next up is The Nesting Place: It Doesn't Have to Be Perfect to Be Beautiful by Myquillyn Smith. If you've ever read her blog, Nesting Place, then you might already love her style like I do!

This book has the same basic premise as the previous book... it isn't about decorating a house but rather it's about creating a beautiful home that is meaningful to YOU and that YOU love.

And then there is The New Bohemians: Cool and Collected Homes by Justina Blakeney.

Justina also has a blog, The Jungalow | A Bohemian Lifestyle Blog.

Her book is a bit different in that it gives examples of different styles of bohemian... The Modern Bohemian, The Folksy Bohemian, The Romantic Bohemian, The Earthy Bohemian, The Nomadic Bohemian, and The Maximal Bohemian.

Did you know there were so many different sytles of the bohemian look? I sure didn't! I think I am more of a modern bohemian!

And finally, Life Unstyled: How to embrace imperfection and create a home you love by Emily Henson. She has a blog as well... noticing a trend here? 😏 She can be found at Life Unstyled - Interior and Lifestyle Blog.

Her introduction is that "A home is never done" and "to rebel against those spotless, clutter-free interiors and talk instead about real homes"... Amen Sista!!

Chapters include... work with what you've got, good clutter, and break the rules, among others... sounds delightful am I right?!

I am in love with all four of these books and they have such beautiful, inspiring pictures! You can look inside each one by clicking on the links I've included here.

Let me know if you already own or plan to buy any of these, I'd love to hear what you thought!

They all sound like fabulous books. I am a firm believer in decorating for yourself because you live there and our home should be our refuge.

  2. Hi Debra, yes decorate for yourself for sure... I think so many people (me included) get caught up sometimes in drooling over other peoples homes on Pinterest and blogs and want to recreate someone else's house and they kind of lose themselves.
