Upcycled Silverware Lapel Pin
11 April
It's time for another Thrifty Chicks Challenge! If you are new here, Thrifty Chicks is a group of blogging friends and once a month we get together to do a themed upcycle project.
This month's theme is silverware!
Since we don't tell each other beforehand what we are making, I was a little nervous that we might duplicate each other! We didn't though, each of our imaginations went in a different direction 😊
My project started out with a vintage knife that I found at a thrift shop. I actually have several of these and I picked the one with the most wear for this project. I knew I would be cutting this knife and didn't really want to do that with one of the nicer ones!
Here is what I made, it's a cute little vase lapel pin!

It was a little hard getting the cut started since the knife is smooth. I actually think a hacksaw would work better but I do not have one and didn't have time to purchase one yet!
I used my Dremel tool and the little wire brush attachment to smooth out the rough edges. (It's not too pretty but by the time I'm done you won't even notice!)
These are my supplies to make this lapel pin.
I used a small flower punch and some vintage sheet music to punch a few flowers.
Then each one got a dab of glue.
And then a white button on top.
And the floral wire to create stems for a little bouquet!
Then I added these sweet pearls to the very top of each flower.
I put a big glop of glue down into the knife handle and then tucked in my little flower bouquet.
Then added some vintage lace, a pink safety pin, and a vintage rhinestone button!
The back has a brooch pin back so you can pin it to a jacket or blouse.

Supplies Needed:
- Vintage silverware piece with a hollow handle
- Hacksaw
- Buttons
- Mary Frances scrapbooking pearls
- Vintage sheet music
- Flower punch
- Floral wire
- Glue
- Vintage lace and embellishments
- Brooch pin back
I used my reciprocating saw and a blade made specifically for metal to cut the handle off. I could tell from the weight and sound of it when I thumped it that it was hollow so it would be the perfect little lapel vase!
