Vintage Medicine Cabinet Refresh
20 May
I am so proud of myself! I am still working on Operation Garage Cleanout! I just finished up this project I'm sharing today and I dug out another treasure to transform (I am SUPER excited about the next idea and can't wait to share!) 😉
But today's project is a vintage medicine cabinet that I picked up at an estate sale a couple of years ago for $5 bucks.
Here is what it looked like before.
The $10 price tag was their original estate sale price but everything was half off on the day I went!
A lovely specimen isn't it?! 😁
Honestly, the only reason I bought it is that I have one in my bathroom that made over and I just love it!
And here is what it looked like after removing the contact paper.
This is another no-spend project so I chose to paint it gold because I already had some gold spray paint.
I taped off the mirror and sprayed the whole outside gold.
The inside got a fresh coat of white which you'll see in a little bit.
I needed a knob... well, I didn't really NEEEED one but I wanted one!!
So I chose a simple wooden drawer pull with the idea of painting it to create a little boho style knob.
I gave it a couple of coats of white as a basecoat for my design.
To paint the boho details I used Delta Ceramcoat Gleams paint in 14k gold.
I am so bad a remembering to take pictures sometimes... especially when I really get into something... so needless to say, I forgot to take more pictures of the knob as I was creating my design 😒
But you can see I added some polka-dots in each of the scallops and then painted the center gold and added white polka-dots.
It's not perfect but that's the beautiful thing about boho... it's not perfect and that's part of it's charm... at least that's what I'm telling myself!!
I decided to create a little faux etched effect on the mirror for a little more boho charm. I used clear contact paper and freehanded a couple of little barrel cactus', cut them out and stuck them to the front!
I used an x-acto knife to cut the details into the cactus'.
It's hard to take pictures of mirrors!!! I hope you can see the cute little cactus'!
I added a little chalkboard inside the door. I like to write positive messages in mine, right now it says "You look pretty" 😀
The shelves inside got fresh, new contact paper.
I believe medicine cabinets like these were originally intended to be mounted inside the wall in a cutout in the sheetrock but they are just as cute when hung on a normal wall... especially when they are painted fancy gold!!
