Mister Art recently reached out to me to see if I'd like to review something from their site and when I started looking around to see what they had I was happy to find a DIY Dollhouse book that I really wanted to check out!

I used the directions and inspiration from the book to make my latest dollhouse project.

I guess I didn't read far enough in the description in my excitement because all I saw was "D.I.Y. Dollhouse is a lavishly illustrated guide for budding architects, builders, and designers..." but had I read just a little further I would have seen that this book is geared toward children so that they can build their own dollhouses with basic supplies you find in most homes and just a little bit of parental supervision.

But I had the book in hand so I started flipping through it to see what kind of projects there were and I was pleasantly surprised! There are some really cute projects in the book that kids would be able to make all by themselves. The instructions are easy to follow with pictures and instructions.

I found a project for a chair made from a paper cup that I could adapt and use for my dollhouse.

A paper cup is too large for my dollhouse but as I was looking through the cupboards for something that would work I found the bottles of cold medicine that come with the little plastic measuring cups on the lids. This would be just about the right size for my dollhouse!

To make your own, draw the shape of the sides of your chair with a permanent marker.

Cut along the lines with scissors and a razor blade where the scissors won't easily reach.

Once the shape is cut out the directions in the book say to cover it with fabric using glue. I chose a scrap of large floral print fabric.

I used Mod Podge to adhere the fabric to the plastic cup but you could use regular craft glue too.

The piece of fabric needs to be a little bit larger than the surface area you are covering, then cut little slits around the edges.

Fold the clipped edges over the edge and adhere with more Mod Podge.

Follow the same process to cover the outside but line up the edge at the top and just clip the bottom edge.

Next, measure and cut a circle to cover the bottom of the chair. Cut this in an oval shape to allow a little overhang for clipping.

Clip and fold that little flap up too and then cover the inside seat with another circle of fabric.

Now I wanted to create a little base to elevate my chair a little bit. I found a plastic container that had thumbtacks in it and used one of the side pieces.

Glue with E6000 glue and clamp.

Once it's semi-dry, cover with a strip of fabric using Mod Podge.

Glue that to the bottom of the chair.

The little cushion is just two circles of fabric sewn together and stuffed with a tiny bit of polyfill stuffing.

This just goes to show that you can create dollhouse items from things you have lying around!

And even a book geared toward children can be used by adults for super cute projects!

A little bit more about the book, it has great little projects for kids. It shows how to make a fun dollhouse out of boxes and crates with fabric and wrapping paper walls, furniture out of matchboxes and tea boxes, and fun little accents from everyday objects!

But, even if you don't have a dollhouse I would encourage you to check out Mister Art! They have so many different kinds of craft supplies and most of it is up to 75% off what you would normally pay!
