DIY Upcycled Thrift Store Painting - 7 Days of Thrift Shop Flips - Day Three
19 August
It's day three already of 7 Days of Thrift Shop Flips!
Today's post is actually something I have done before but it's so much fun to do that I just couldn't help making another one!
This one is actually for Bertha (my vintage motorhome) but I didn't visit her this weekend so haven't hung it up in her just yet.
Here is my painting before. This one isn't too bad, someone actually did a pretty nice job but it's still not something I would hang in my home as-is.
Print out your quote or words of your choice and lay a piece of transfer paper (chalky side down) between the painting and your printed quote. The colored transfer paper is handy to have because sometimes a color works better than black or white depending on the colors in your painting.
Use the stylus (or pen or pencil) to trace over the words onto the canvas.
Then just fill in the letters with paint in the color of your choice.
You can add fun things like arrows too!
Since I am going to hang this in Bertha I decided not to add a frame. I wanted it to remain light and rustic looking. I chose to use just one piece of wood trim.
I cut it to size and then painted it black, then off-white and distressed it with sandpaper. I added it to the top of my painting.
I think this will be the perfect accent for Bertha, I can't wait to hang it! 😀
Here is a sneak peek at tomorrow's project!

If you go to many thrift stores than you probably know that there are ALWAYS lots of amateur paintings in the picture aisle and usually quite a few outdoor scenes like this one.
On their own, they might not be something that you would consider hanging in your home (unless you find the rare really good one) but with a few words added to them, they become something really fun!
