Wooden Spoon Repurpose

That's IT!!! It's time for a change! I've had it!

This is the third month in a row that I have completely forgotten about the Thrifty Chicks Challenge projects! 😲 That means that I am scrambling last minute and probably not doing my best work!

I also forgot about National Thrift Shop Day which is THIS Saturday, August 17th. 😬 I usually do a series of seven posts, 7 Days of Thrift Shop Flips in honor of National Thrift Shop Day for the week leading up to the day. But since I forgot, I won't be starting the series until the actual day and will use the week after to share my flips... if I can get them done that is!

And I signed up to do the Twelve Days of Christmas blog hop again this year which means I need to start planning and creating NOW!!

I need to start scheduling my posts on a calendar so I quit forgetting about them!

Well, even though I forgot about this month's Thrifty Chicks Challenge, I did manage to get a quick project done although it's not my favorite.

Here is my before picture. Our challenge this month is rolling pins or wooden utensils.

As I was surfing Pinterest looking for inspiration I kept seeing wooden spoon puppets and thought they were cute!

I decided to make my own Frida Khalo spoon puppet! If you don't know who that is you can read about her here: Frida Kahlo - Wikipedia. She was a Mexican painter, born in 1907 and died in 1954. In the art world, she is easily recognized by her unibrow.

I started by painting my wooden spoon with flesh-colored paint.

Then I drew on a simple face. I freestyled it so it'd definitely not perfect! I used a white paint pen to color in the eyes.

The rest was created with colored Sharpie markers and colored pencils for shading and cheek color.

I used some black yarn I had and looped a bunch of it around my fingers then glued it onto the spoon like so.

Then I flipped it back over and tacked it down on the back of the spoon with hot glue. I pulled a few strands out and created some little tendrils.

Then I created a dress for her from a scrap of vintage fabric.

I rummaged through my stashes and found some vintage lace, and pom pom trim to dress up her outfit!

I guess she's pretty cute... just not as cute as I envisioned. What do you think?
