Repurposed Spindle Valance

09 October
It's the second Wednesday of October already, can you believe it?! I'm a little sad that summer is over already, I'm not quite ready for the cold weather are you?

But I am excited about today because it is Thrifty Chicks day! On the second Wednesday of each month, a few of my blogging friends and I take on a repurposing challenge project. This month's challenge is spindles!

Here are our spindles before their transformations!

I have had my spindles for a long time, waiting for the perfect project. Some of them are from an old chair that fell apart, some of them are newer (although I picked them up from a garage sale or thrift shop).

In order to ensure that I had enough for the project I had in mind, I cut all the smaller ones in half so that I had twice as many. And I cut the large one in half lengthwise.

I drilled holes in the ends.

The wood was so dry! I debated between painting them and staining them. In the end, I decided to just moisturize the wood with Howard's Feed-N-Wax. I like the variety of wood shades that I ended up with!

Just look at the difference!

I used an old piece of molding for part of this project. I played around with the arrangement.

I painted the molding with this black paint.

The spindles were attached to the wood piece with wood glue and nails.

Once I had all the spindles attached, I hung it up in my bathroom with command strips!

I really wasn't sure how this was going to turn out.

I almost scrapped it several times.

In fact, I was about ready to get on the computer and tell my friends that my project didn't turn out and I couldn't participate.

But I thought, oh what the hell, I may as well see what it looks like on the window!

I'm so glad I did too because it looks SO MUCH BETTER on the window than it did on my workbench!

However... it does not look so good on the floor... it just fell off the wall as I was typing this post😂 It's ok though, no damage but I'll have to get some sawtooth hangers instead of command hooks.
