Altered Valentine Candy Box
25 January
When I was cleaning and reorganizing my craft studio I came across a valentine candy box that I had saved. I almost recycled it but then I thought I'd go ahead and create something fun with it!
I coated both the top and bottom of the box and used my little craft hair dryer to dry them quickly.
Then I used Mod Podge to adhere the selvage pieces to the lid.
I cut small pieces and laid them on diagonally. I left an overhang that I will trim once it's dry.
These are the trims I'm using.
I used hot glue and first added the hot pink pom-pom trim around the edge.
Then I used the smaller pom-pom trim over the top of that.
I cut a long strip of the paper and then creased it every 1/4". Hopefully, you can see the creases in this picture! This makes it easy to accordion fold it evenly.
Glue the ends together to make the medallion. I glued some paper scraps onto the back to hold it secure.
And here is what it looks like from the front!
I added a cute little tag and it's all done! What do you think?
Of course, I ate the candy from this box last year but I could easily buy a bag of chocolates and refill it!

I also found a bunch of fabric selvages that I had saved. Why would I save fabric selvages, you ask? Well... because that's how I roll!! I save things! And then I forget about them!! 😂
I also saved them because fabric selvage crafts is a thing!! Did you know? Do a search in Pinterest and you'll see!
I used some Gesso to coat my candy box so that the design wouldn't show through the fabric. Gesso is a white primer basically. Plain white paint would work just as well but with more coats probably.

Once dry, I trimmed all around the edges.

Then I used the pink velvet ribbon to go around the edges of the front and back pieces.
I wanted to make a little accordion fold medallion for the front of the box. I used a scrap of pink paper for this.

I am also using some tinsel trim in pink and chipboard letters!
I added a cute little tag and it's all done! What do you think?
