Vintage Cutting Board Makeover

For the last couple of weeks, I've been going through my storage cabinets where I have my Etsy shop inventory stored. I am shocked at how much stuff I have in those cabinets that I have never even listed!!😲

I've also had this month's Thrifty Chicks challenge in the back of my mind... mulling it over... and as I was going through those inventory cupboards I came across a vintage cutting board!

Perfect timing because today I am joining my fellow Thrifty Chicks for this month's cutting board challenge!

I just love these monthly challenges, they are one of my favorite times of the month!

Vintage Cutting Board Makeover

Here is that cutting board I found buried in the recesses of the Etsy shop inventory!


But then I had a thought... it involved these other supplies, a piece of thin scrap wood and an old necklace hanger that used to be inside an old jewelry box.


First I sanded the cutting board... I even sanded over the images (but very lightly) just enough to remove the old yellowed finish.

Then I picked out this red that coordinates with the colors in the images.


I used the red to paint the edges of the cutting board.


It's looking better already I think!


The images on the cutting board are cute but it kind of bugged me how they appeared to be just slapped on there and floating in space, you know?!

I decided that they needed little shelves to sit on!

So, I cut small strips from the wood scrap.


And I picked out this green color that also compliments the images.


I painted the new little shelves green.


And glued them where I wanted them on the cutting board but they looked a little lonely so I made some little shelf brackets!


I left them their natural color for a little interest.


Now, what did I do with that necklace hanger?? Well, first it cut it down a little bit.


And I painted it red.


Then added it to the edge of the bottom shelf!!


Eeeee! What do you think?!


I LOVE how the images now appear to be sitting on a shelf or hanging from the bottom of the shelf!!
