Upcycled Pedestal Stand

26 September

It's time for our second Do It Over Designers blog hop!

There aren't a lot of rules... we each just take something old or unused and 'do it over' into something new and then share here on the Do It Over Designers blog hop!

I will share my project with you first, and then at the bottom, you'll be able to see all the other participants cool projects! 😄 I'm excited to see what everyone made too!

Upcycled Pedestal Stand

I decided to make a pedestal stand from part of an old lamp and a metal souvenir state tray.

If you've been around LVC for very long then you've probably seen my Upcycled Lamp Garden Totem. After I made that I had some of the lamp parts left over so I saved them of course!

I loved the little feet on this vintage lamp base and I decided it would make a great pedestal base! I used a metal state souvenir tray for the top. The tray was slightly damaged, it had a burn mark through the left part of the state image, so it was perfect for this upcycling project!

I spray painted the tray white and the base aqua.

Then I cut a circle from some thin, 1/8" wood that I had to fill the indented circle so that there would be a substantial base to glue the tray to.

I used construction adhesive to glue in the circle of wood and then weighed it down overnight to dry.

I wanted the base to look a little aged and add some patina so I used this glaze that I've had for seriously... like 15 years!

I just used a paintbrush to smear the glaze all around and make sure it got down into the cracks and crevices.

Then wiped it off with a rag.

I thought it would be easier to get the tray centered on the base by flipping it upsidedown to glue it. I used E-6000 but the construction adhesive would work for this part too. I weighed it down while it dried.

All done!!

I have it sitting on my coffee table now.

If you turned the tray upside down and glued it on that way it would make a cool cake stand too! That way it wouldn't have the lip of the tray to interfere with the cake knife.
