How to Display Vintage Valentines

03 February

Do you have any old Valentines? I have some and I like to display them with my Valentine decor but it's always a little hard to figure out how to display them.

But this year I came up with a few ideas!

I wanted something whimsical and fun to match the cuteness of these old Valentines.

I have five ideas to share.

Idea #1:

My first idea for displaying vintage Valentines involves this salvaged wood piece. I'm really not sure what it is... or was... I found it at the dump. It kind of resembles a chair back but I don't think that's what it is.

I found this several years ago and have been hanging onto it all this time but it has been sitting outside in the weather... it cleaned up nicely considering how dry the wood was! I used Howard's Feed-N-Wax to condition the wood and then sprayed it with a clear coat to protect my Valentines from any wax residue that might soak into the paper from the wood (the product I used is definitely not greasy or anything, but I just wanted to make extra sure that these vintage Valentines didn't get damaged).

I tied red and white baker's twine across the front several times.

And then I used miniature clothespins to hang the Valentines from the twine.

I used some pink scrapbooking dimensional stickers to spell out "Valentine" on the top. (If you look closely enough, you can see that I had to make one of the Es because I only had one!😉)

Idea #2:

The second idea I have to display my Valentines is with picture stands like the Upcycled Doorknob Photo Holders I made and an old flower frog.

Here is the photo holder tutorial: Upcycled Doorknob Photo Holders

I think it makes more of a statement to group them together on something like this wooden riser.

I  have some newer Valentine's that my mom has made me over the years too, and I wanted to display those as well which brings me to...

Idea #3:

I picked up a wooden heart-shaped letter holder on a recent thrifting trip and upycled it with a coat of pretty pink!

And now the cards my mom made for me are displayed in it. It's easy to take them out and look at them.

Idea #4:

I have some glass jars that I like to use in my decor filled with things like candy and small decorative items.

I decided to try displaying a few Valentines inside one of the jars.

I placed them around the inside of the glass so that they curved a little to match the shape of the jar and added filler behind them to hold them in place. I used some glass hearts that I had on hand, but you could even use colored tissue paper crumpled up to fill the center.

Idea #5:

And finally, for the last idea, I framed the most special one of my vintage collection. It's one I received in 3rd grade... from a boy 😆 haha!

I picked up a simple frame at the Dollar Store and just used some scrapbook paper behind the Valentine.

I'd love to hear how you display vintage (or new) Valentine's!
