DIY Giant Floor Pouf
24 January
Have you ever wanted a giant floor pouf or floor pillow?
If you already have one, you're lucky because they can be so expensive to buy!! At least $100 and up!! 😳
I've wanted one for some time and decided to try making my own.
DIY Giant Floor Pouf
I must apologize in advance though because I created a video for this project (I will link below), but I forgot to take very many actual pictures as I was going!
I am still working on getting my video and blogging skills to mesh but I'll get there!
I used a huge vintage tapestry to make mine but really, any upholstery weight (or heavier) fabric will work for this.

Supplies Needed to Make Your Own:
- Huge tapestry (or other upholstery weight fabric, approximately 2 - 3 yards)
- Coordinating heavy-duty thread
- Sewing machine
- Zipper (long enough for the size you are making)
- Scissors
- Tape measure
- Pillows or beanbag filler
You can watch the video tutorial here, there were definitely some struggles!! 😂
I started with a vintage tapestry similar to this one:
Source: Pinetreehome
I found some large 22" goose feather pillows at a local thrift store for $16.97 for three pillows.
They had covers that had zipper closures so I removed them and reused one for another layer of padding for my pouf. I filled it with some beanbag filler beans I had from a past project.
So, I then had three goose feather pillows and one pillow with beanbag filler, plus then I added another down pillow I had shoved under my bed which gave me FIVE huge pillows inside!!
To make one yourself:
Step 1: cut a square from the tapestry or fabric the size of your pillow inserts plus about 2 inches for a seam allowance.
Step 2: cut four rectangles from the tapestry or fabric the same measurements as the sides of your stacked pillows.
Step 3: pin the sides to the top, right sides together and stitch along each edge. This is what it will look like once you've stitched the sides and opened it up.
Step 4: Stitch the four corners together so that you have a large four-sixed box.
Step 5: Cut a bottom with the same measurement as the top from the tapestry. You can see that I had to piece mine together which was fine by me since this is the bottom.
Step 6: if you want to add a zipper like I did (I wanted to be able to wash it), there is a great tutorial for how to add a zipper from Makers Gonna Learn HERE.
Step 7: sew the bottom to the four sides right sides together. Be sure to leave the zipper open a little bit so you can turn it right side out!
Step 8: turn and add your pillows.
