This time I created four pages instead of just three but two are basically the same.
Altered Book of Curiosities - Part 2
As I stated in part one, I'm using things I've saved, found, or already had in my craft stash to create this little altered book.
The first three pages were created around a smashed pop bottle cap and a rusty paperclip I found on the ground, an old orphaned greeting card envelope that had yellowed, some pressed flowers from a bouquet I received, and a piece of broken windshield glass from a car wreck that my daughter was in once.
This time, I used the following found or saved things:
bird's feathers I've picked up and collected
a coffee-stained piece of paper
paint sample chips
a vintage button, lapel pin, a round piece of glass, and sewing notions
some twigs from the yard
Here's the video I made showing my creation process, I hope you like it.
Pages One and Two - Found Bird Feathers
I always pick up interesting bird feathers when I see them on the ground.
These two pages and very simple but I love them.
First, I painted each page with a watered-down (watercolor style) background in a color that would compliment the feathers I was using.
The bird feathers are just tacked down with hot glue along the hard spine so as not to ruin the feather part.
Then I made little hand-stamped specimen tags and splattered the pages with paint using an old toothbrush.
Did you know that you can use Google Lens to snap a picture and look up what kinds of feathers you have?
It works with plants too and of course shopping!
Page Three - The Collector
This page was created with a piece of notepad paper that had coffee spilled on it, some paint color sample swatches, an old button, a plastic sales tax token, a torn piece of a sewing notion card (it has hooks and eyes on it), another interesting found object that I have no idea what it is, lol, and a gold paper frame thing.
This page reminds me of a collection of things that a magpie might collect!
I have a roll of gummed carton sealing tape that I took from a job I had many years ago. We used it to seal up the packages we were sending out. The adhesive is activated with water so you just wet the back of the tape.
I tore off two strips of that and pasted them onto the paper.
I used one of the paint sample cards to trace a frame onto the other card.
And then I glued the coffee-stained page and the paint sample frame onto the page.

I then used some dried moss and created a little bird's nest and added some tiny plastic eggs.
Here I was experimenting with the placement of things, I liked the back of the gold frame better than the gold side.
The butterfly and the mushrooms are from the Tim Holtz Field Notes Snippet Ephemera Pack. I added the things I'd collected here and there on the page. The mini magnifying glass was created from a round piece of glass I had and a miniature golf club for the handle. You can see that creation in the video!
I sprayed it with distress ink and colored the edge of the page with a green Sharpie.
Here's the finished page!
Page Four - Do Something Green Today
For this page, I used some twigs from the yard, more paint sample cards, an old book page, some pressed flowers from a bouquet I received, and an old lapel pin!
First, I gathered up some twigs from the yard and broke them into little 1 to 2-inch pieces.
I used a page from an old book...
...and a paint sample card to create the background for this page.
Then I started layering the little twig pieces to create a heart shape on another paint card.
I layered in a strip of paper that I used a decorative edge punch on and some pressed flowers from a bouquet I received.
I added another piece of a paint card with the edge punched, a piece of twine that I pulled out of some burlap fabric, and a vintage lapel pin.
The tag says "do something green today." Very appropriate for these two pages don't you think?! 😊
The pin says "Norma."
I did not really plan for these two pages to go together but they kind of do, don't they!?
Well, that's it for part two of the altered book of curiosities, I'm already working on the pages for part four!!
Thank you for the Google lens tip. I found a large feather in the mountains last year and have been curious about the species so I'll be checking this out today. You are so talented Tania and could sell these amazing book of curiosities for big bucks. Well done!
Thank you so much Marie, that's so nice of you to say :) I hope you're successful with finding the ID of your feather, it worked really well for me except for one feather which I think was just too common looking or something.
Great job Tania! I wish I had just a bit of your imagination. I have bits and pieces and buttons and bobs and all kinds of other things just like you and I have them in special containers just like you. The only thing I don't have is the imagination but then again, I have you to inspire me! I really like the vintage binder you are putting everything in, it suits the pages perfectly!
Thank you so much Pam! Feel free to copy my pages, I think once you get started your imagination will start working for you! It's always hard for me to start a page but once I get past that initial starting hump, my imagination takes over!
