Our kitchen is a tiny galley-style kitchen with little to no storage so we had to get creative with storage and organization and today I'm sharing the solutions that we have come up with in the form of a kitchen tour (complete with a video)! 😃
Storage Ideas for Small Kitchens (And a Tour of Our Kitchen)!
I will share links to the things we used at the bottom of this post.
You can watch the video here:
I'm standing in our dining room in this picture and you can see the DIY Plate Rack Wall that I built.
We'll start on the right side of the kitchen where you can see my copper bottom pans hanging above the cooktop.
I used a shower curtain tension rod and shower curtain hooks to hang them. I chose gold to match the new cabinet hardware, lights, and refrigerator handles.
Right in front of the cooktop we installed a popout drawer. You typically see these in front of the sink but we didn't have enough space for one there so we chose to put one here instead... because every little space counts!
I use lots of baskets for storage. They look nice so they can act as decor too. This polka-dot one holds bread.
I put all our large utensils next to the cooktop in canisters. I like them to look pretty so I grouped all the black utensils together in one canister and all the wood utensils in another.
Above the stovetop, I used a lazy Susan to hold our cooking oils.
And I hung the measuring cups inside the door.
Below the stovetop, we used pull-out shelves. These cabinets are very deep so without pull-out shelves, things would get lost and be hard to get to.
And the pot lids are on the doors.
I used a double-sided magnetic knife block to store the knives on the side of the fridge.
I'm so proud of this next project!
I made a rolling pull-out spice storage drawer for the space between the fridge and counter! I used the large one that Meg at Baker Blooms made as my inspiration.
At the end of the kitchen, we had just enough room to use a slender cabinet that we already had.
We use it for more spices and jars that we use to make almond milk.
We used more baskets here and I wallpapered the inside of it to help it blend in.
And we have another spice rack here.
Another basket on top holds chips and rice cakes.
I upcycled this buffet that I got from Wayfair with faux cane doors (using burlap!), legs, and a tile top. You can see that project here: DIY Faux Cane Door Sideboard.
I added a couple of corner shelves to the area next to the window.
Then I brought in a small end table to hold the toaster oven.
It also has a basket on the bottom shelf and our smaller cutting boards.
I elevated and stenciled an old cutting board to use next to the sink for soaps and things.
And of course, more baskets!
There were two hooks above the kitchen sink so we hung a fruit basket from one.
I Marie Kondo'd the kitchen towels! You can fit so many more towels in a drawer this way and see them all! This is how I fold my jeans and t-shirts too.
We installed a pull-out garbage can and a little recycling bin. Our garbage cans are a ways away so with this we just wait for it to be full and then take it out.
Shelf risers in the cupboards give you more room.
I also used some vintage canisters for flour, sugar, coffee, and tea.
Here are a few before and after pictures from when we bought the house on the left to now on the right!

Your kitchen is now such a welcoming place. You have so many genius ideas I don't know which I like the best. So many kitchens today don't have enough storage space. Thanks for all the good ideas!

ReplyDeleteThanks Vikki! I know, you'd think that storage in kitchens these days would be getting better, not worse!
