Spring Mantel Decor

09 March

You know I've been having fun changing the decor on our fireplace mantel for the holidays and seasons since we put it up last year.

It's one of the first things you see when you walk in the front door so I like to change up the decor on it often.

I just redid it for spring!

I made a video showing the mantel creation like I've done with all of them.

I always like to start with a blank slate and one of the vintage mirrors I have.

And then I layer something in front of the mirror,  This time I chose a vintage picture.

I don't have a frame for this picture so I just taped it to the mirror for now.

Then I added a couple of baskets to the chimney.

These green books were an excellent addition for bringing in some spring color.

I have used this thrifted wooden vase in all but one of the mantels I've designed so far and it's back again for spring!

I picked up some pretty spring flowers and fern stems for it from Hobby Lobby.

Then I added a fun vintage lady bust that I found recently. She is made of wood and very unique looking.

I gave her a pretty little flower headband.

Then I added a glass cloche with gold bees. In the video I called them butterflies... but they are bees 😏

And a little row of marching geese from my collection of brass animals.

I like how it looks like they are walking along the edge of the water in the picture 😊

I also found the little pink wooden mushroom at Hobby Lobby.

Finally, I added a couple of vintage tins. This one to the right of the bust is one I just thrifted over the weekend.

And another one that I made into a candle.

And here is my finished spring mantel!

It will be pretty easy to add in some Easter touches later.

  1. I like the idea of styling your mantel seasonally. My question for you is how do you store your decor pieces while not in use...do you group them by color, substance, season, or something else? I am stuck on how to store my decor pieces as there is an overlap in seasonal suitability and I don't want to forget that I have these pieces when it comes time to create a pretty display. Help!!

    1. Well, everything I used was from just shopping my house... the green books were up in my craft room, the lady bust, cloche with bees, brass geese, and vintage picture were from other rooms in my house. The mirror and wood vase are almost always on the mantel. I do have another mirror that I sometimes use so I store the mirrors under the couch when I'm not using those. Sometimes I go through my boxes of holiday decor and grab things to use from there (like my Easter decor is a good place to look for spring mantel decor). This is a really good question though and I'm definitely going to give this some more thought but if you have the space I would try to store things so you can always see them. Perhaps a basement where you could set up a shelving unit, then you could go shop your shelves! Stay tuned and I'll do some thinking and write a blog post about this!!
