I have been trying to not buy a lot of new projects at the thrift stores until I use up some of what I have, but when I saw two cute little wooden flower baskets I just couldn't leave them behind.
They were just $2.99 each and I thought they were so cute! They can stand on their own or hang up.
Flower arranging is not one of my strongest skills but these are small scale so I thought I could redo them pretty easily.
Thrifted Flower Basket Makeover
The only thing I purchased was the thrifted baskets at $2.99 each. Everything else I already had.
Here is what they looked like when I found them.
Now as I said, flower arranging isn't really my strong point but I don't know... these just looked weird to me with the fall-colored wheat stalks in with the pink berries and white flowers 😕
I just knew they could be so much cuter!
So, the first thing I did was take out all that mess but I sorted it into little piles in case I wanted to reuse any of it in the new arrangements.
So now I just had the blank wood baskets to work with. I love how these are made, I think they are so cute!
I decided to paint them. I chose this Tuscan Teal for one.
And Bubblegum Pink for the other.
Instead of just straight-up painting them, I decided to do a paint wash to allow some of the wood to show through.
I watered down the paint and brushed some on the basket.
And then I wiped it off with a paper towel, making my way around the basket in small sections.
I let them dry overnight and this is what they looked like.
I used the old pieces of foam to cut new pieces from real florist's foam.
I glued the new foam in with hot glue and then added some moss on top to hide it.
I added some faux string of pearls that will drape down over the side of the basket.
Then I added a faux Monstera leaf. I got a bundle of these at the Dollar Tree a while back.
Then I found this cute little fuzzy pink thing in my stash and added it on the right.
Then I used some of the white flowers that were originally in the basket and some curly filler stuff I had.
A purple faux succulent...
And some little green faux succulents on the left.
And finally some of the pink berries that were in it. I did switch out the white for dried white baby's breath.
I also added a cute little vintage angel.
I followed the same process with the blue basket but with different plants and flowers.
I used faux eucalyptus, dried pink bunny tails, and a faux cactus in this one.
They are flat on the back so you can hang them too. The rocks were added for weight so they wouldn't tip forward.
I wasn't sure about the little angel. I went back and forth but in the end, I decided she was cute.
What do you think? Better without her?
Which one is your favorite?
