It's time for a new Do-It-Over-Designers (DOD) challenge and also perfect timing for a little Valentine's Day project!
If you are new, the DOD challenge is a bi-monthly challenge where a group of my blogging friends and I take something old or unused and "do it over" into something new. I will share my project with you and then you'll be able to check out the other ladies' projects.
Altered Valentine's Day Plate

I found this heart-shaped milk glass plate at Goodwill for just $2.99. I thought it was unique with the little hearts around the edge. I've never seen one like this before, have you?
I knew right away that it would be perfect for altering.
I also recently found a bunch of vintage Valentines in a bag of old paper dolls that I thrifted. I made a copy of one that I wanted to use for this project, resizing it to the size I wanted.
I cut the Valentine out and a heart to fit inside the plate from some pink strawberry scrapbook paper.
Next, I flipped the paper heart over and added some cute scalloped pink trim.
Then I added some small white rick-rack to the front of the heart.
Finally, a pink ribbon bow with some vintage seam binding ribbon.
Then I added some wood button plugs to act as spacers so the Valentine would have a 3D look and test fit the whole thing in the plate.
Then I added the Valentine.
Then I turned my attention back to the plate. I found some white grosgrain ribbon in my stack to use for a hanger but it needed to be ironed.
Isn't my little craft iron adorable?! 😁
I thought a tassel hanging from the bottom of the plate would be cute and I had some pink and white yarn that would work well.
I just used a booklet to wrap the yarn around to make a tassel.
I brushed the strands of yarn to separate them a bit.
I didn't want to permanently adhere this to the plate since I've never seen one like it before so I opted to use mounting squares so that it can be removed in the future.
I painted and glittered some wooden hearts to add here and there. You can see one on the top of the plate above.
I wanted to add some sparkle to the Valentine, so I used some glitter glue.
I used it around the large heart on the Valentine, the heart she is holding, on her dress and belt, and the dog's hat.
Then I just added a few more little details.

That is just the sweetest Valentine makeover. I love the patterns you chose and that vintage flair. It's adorable.

DeleteI love how your altered heart turned out. It's super cute! You're always so great at adding details to take projects to that next level. So great! I never knew there was such a thing as a mini craft iron, and I can see how that would be so handy. I really need to get one of those.

DeleteYour design is very sweet. I have the same plate in clear red glass with hand painted flowers on the front. I use it as part of my Vday decor every year. Now I want to find a while one too :)

DeleteOmg, I love everything about your altered plate project! You're so creative with all those special details. Thanks for the idea of making a copy of the vintage card! I've got some family vintage greeting cards, but wouldn't want to cut up the original ones.
