DIY Thrift Baskets

03 February

Over the Christmas holidays, I became a little obsessed with some new Instagram Reels and TikTok videos that I found. I thought they were so fun and I couldn't stop watching them!

They were "Merry Thriftmas" videos where people shared how they thrifted for Christmas gifts and put together some really beautiful and creative gift baskets for friends and family.

I was sad to see it end so I decided why not create my own thrift baskets? Get it?? Gift baskets... Thrift baskets?? 😁

I created two for Valentine's Day and a few others so far.

DIY Thrift Baskets

I made a video of the creation process for one of the Valentine-themed baskets. I'm also sharing one of the more generic baskets below the video.

These are the items I used in another basket.

From left to right:
  • the finished basket
  • a red scarf used to line the basket (thrifted)
  • a handmade candle in a red heart-shaped bowl (thrifted and made with thrifted candles)
  • heart-shaped measuring spoons (thrifted)
  • a card (thrifted)
  • a red heart cookie cutter (thrifted)
  • red heart LED lights (Dollar Store)
  • Valentine gnome socks (Dollar Store)
  • a vase (thrifted) filled with chocolate heart candies (Dollar Store) and the socks in the bottom
  • a vintage coffee mug (thrifted)

Read on to see the lemon-themed thrift basket that I made.

Lemon-Theme Kitchen Thrift Basket

I found this sweet yellow basket to start this thrift basket with.

How perfect that I found some tissue paper with lemons on it at the Dollar Store 😃

I lined the basket with it.

I thought I might have trouble finding cute lemon-themed items but I found a lot including this adorable recipe book!

DIY Thrift Baskets

It's a DIY recipe book, so you fill it in with your own recipes. It would be fun to include your favorite recipe in the book for the recipient.

I thought this little basket canister was so cute. It's plicker (plastic wicker).

I used a yellow ribbon to tie it so the lid wouldn't fall off in the basket.

And two little cutting boards that are perfect for cutting... what else but lemons!! I only used one in this basket.

I'm adding a lemon-scented hand soap, also thrifted.

I found a little yellow candle at The Dollar Store to help fill out the basket.

As I said in the video, my goal is to have some new, some vintage, and some handmade (although I didn't get anything handmade into this basket).

I found this cute vintage coffee mug and filled it with Lemonhead candies that I got at the Dollar Store. I could have left them in the box and tucked that into the basket but I thought it was cuter to have them in the mug.

This cute bag of lemons is also thrifted. I think they are originally from the Target Dollar Spot since there were several bags and Target donates a lot of stuff to Goodwill.

A big bow is the finishing touch on this cute basket.

I don't know about you, but I would love to receive a thoughtful thrift basket!

DIY Thrift Baskets

I think this one would be great for a housewarming gift or a birthday gift.

  1. These came together so beautifully! I'm lovin' the lemon one. The things is that it shows a lot of thought and care to assemble this for a special person. It's not just last-minute grabbed off the shelf as "it will do." Good job!

  2. I, too, would love to receive one of these! Each is so cute and shows a lot of individual attention as to content, making each person feel special. Great ideas! I've never seen the videos either.
