Today is the Do-It-Over-Designers (DOD) challenge and with Valentine's Day right around the corner, I thought it would be the perfect time to share a little Valentine's Day project.
If you're new to the DOD challenges, it's where a group of my blogging friends and I each choose something old, no longer useful, or even broken, and turn it into something new and better.
We find these items at garage sales, thrift stores, attics, barns, or the side of the road; anywhere is game!
My project started with this thrifted heart-shaped wire wreath form.
DIY Scrap Bin Wreath
I'll share my project and I'll share links to the other ladies' projects at the end.
I used four colors of pink yarn (thrifted over time) for this project.
Starting at the point of the heart, I tied the end of one of the pink yarn skeins to the wreath form and then began wrapping the yarn all the way around it.
Then, when I wanted to change yarn colors, I tied the end of the next color onto the first and continued wrapping. I continued this process until the wreath form was completely covered.
When I got back around to the point where I started, the yarn didn't want to cover the wire very well so I wrapped it again separately.
And I wrapped that stubborn point one more time with some fuzzy white yarn ðŸ˜
Then I cut a piece of each color of the yarn about eight to 10 inches long.
I folded the stack in half and tied it to one side of the wreath. Then I separated all the yarn pieces with the end of a paintbrush to make a tassel.
Then I started digging through my thrifted stash of trims. I started with a piece of vintage fringe trim.
I wrapped it around the opposite side.
I made a flower with some of that fuzzy white yarn.
And added it above the fringe.
I have a suitcase full of wood roving for felting. All the little colorful packets were thrifted.
I used some white and tied pieces together at the ends.
I used it to cover that dang point of the heart once and for all!
I used some pink wool and tied it in sections pulling it apart at each section to make it puffy.
I glued this to the wreath in a couple of areas, squishing it close together so it looked like bubbles.

Next, I made some pom-poms. They are easy to make, either with a pom-pom maker or just your fingers. You can find the pom-pom makers that I like on
my Amazon page.
And I just kept going, layering and adding!
I used small Styrofoam balls...
And a little bit of all of these!
And some unfinished wooden hearts...
It was so fun adding all the scrumptious layers, here she is all finished!
Take a moment and check out all the other projects!
Pretty in pink and just in time for Valentine's Day!!
