Future Antique Mall Space - A New Chapter for the Little Vintage Cottage

16 February
I don't have a Treasure Trove Tuesday post to share today... not because I don't have any treasures to share... but because I'm in semi-panic mode! If you follow me on Facebook then you probably already know that I just got approved for a space in one of my local antique stores! It's called the Uptown Antique Mall. It's been around quite a long time and is a pretty popular place... I've been on the waiting list for almost a year!

So why am I panicking? Well... because I move in on the 28th of THIS month! Eeek! I've been scrounging around trying to come up with some ways to display things... shelving and such.

Here are a few pictures of the space now... this is the other vendor's stuff.

I'm planning on painting it a creamy white to better reflect what little overhead lighting there is.

I'm right on a corner so I only have the 2 walls in an L-shape. It's a smaller space to start. I didn't know if I could handle a regular size booth since I work full time and already have several Etsy shops to manage so this smaller one feels right to me.
You can see down the aisle a little bit in this picture. The unfinished door behind the white frame is a permanent fixture that belongs to the mall owners but she said I could paint it too.

I'm going to hang a light of some sort from that cross-bar up in the corner and I think a pretty rug to further define my space would be nice.

I've been obsessing in my head about how I can decorate it and display things, I'm so excited! Today I painted an old bookcase that used to be in my craft studio. It's been sitting in the garage not doing anything and I need shelves so I pulled it out and gave it a makeover. I also made some large wall-hanging arrows out of some old fence boards along with several other things.

Wish me luck! I'll be excited to share it when I'm all moved in.

  1. I'm so excited for you and I know you're going to fix up your spot to look so cute. Please post updates as often as you can. I would LOVE to do this some day. There's no place close to where I live where I can do this, so it will have to wait until we make the move to the lake house where antique malls are more common.

I just saw a post on someone else's blog (sorry don't remember who it was) and they used pallet wood attached to the walls for hanging things. It looked really cute.

  2. Congratulations on your new space! I have a small space in an antique shop and love to look at Pinterest for shop arrangement ideas. I've found some ideas that I can incorporate into my booth. I know looking at Pinterest can be a real time-eater, but it is very inspiring to see what some people have done with their little "shops." Good luck--it's a lot of work but also a lot of fun!

  6. I started in 1998 with a small corner of a back storage room in the first antique mall in this area. The space was about 8 X 8. I fell in love with the resell business. Congratulations, Tania, and good luck - you are going to absolutely love this. Do not get too frantic about decorating at first. You need to learn the traffic pattern of your customers and what they search your booth for.
