Main Bathroom Redo - Repurposed Medicine Cabinet

26 March
I am still working on my main bathroom redo... albeit not very quickly! Sunday I worked on a repurposed medicine cabinet.

Repurposing a medicine cabinet

I'm sure many of you have, or have had, one of these medicine cabinets.

This one was in my half bath off my bedroom, you can see it in the picture of the half bath below. I knew that when I got to this bathroom I wouldn't want this medicine cabinet any more so I decided to repurpose it and use it in the main bathroom!

So I took it off the wall and then removed the mirrored doors, filled the holes, removed the back and painted the frame and shelves light grey.

I removed the back of the shelf because I wanted to cover it with fabric! I thought it would be easier to do it this way rather than cut the fabric to fit inside. This is the fabric I chose and I used spray glue to adhere it to the backing.

I loved the big, colorful flowers on this fabric, it has a very vintage feel to me and has the aqua and green colors that I'm using in the main bathroom.

After I adhered the fabric I nailed the back piece back onto the frame.

I hung it over the toilet in the main bathroom.

The little shelves are adjustable which is kind of nice so you can adjust them to whatever you have on the shelves. As you can see it's also very narrow. I like this because the bathroom is very small!

I'm excited to pick things to display on the shelves! I love how this project turned out.

So, what do you think?

I was inspired by this cabinet from Emily & Erick's Modern Eclectic British Eccentric Bungalow tour on Apartment Therapy:

  1. Hi Tania :) Love the fabric you picked and can't wait to see what items you find to display. I had to have a peek of the house you mentioned. I can see why you were inspired, their home is gorgeous. So much to look at. Thanks for sharing :)

  2. That looks cute! I found that same cabinet in a dumpster last year and brought it home so I could use the mirrored doors.

    Great job on the makeover!

  7. This is so pretty! It doesn't look anything like the medicine cabinet you started with. Such a great idea to remove the back to add the fabric too! ~Amy
