DIY Union Jack Sign

DIY Union Jack Sign

I've been working hard on my blog... cleaning it up, organizing it, and going back through old posts and editing some content. As part of the clean-up I thought it might be fun to re-post some oldies but goodies!

This DIY union jack sign was fun and quick to make, I found an awesome tutorial over at My Sweet Savannah. It was so simple to make, I love her technique!

I recently used the same tutorial to paint the top of a wood chest.

Supplies you'll need:
  • Board to paint your new sign on
  • 3 colors of paint
  • Painter's tape
  • X-acto knife
  • Sand paper
The board I chose to use to make my sign came off the back of an old piece of furniture. It was so old that it was already the dark color that I wanted for the background! :o)

I'm not doing a full tutorial because Melaine's tutorial is so easy to follow there is no need to reinvent the wheel.

I used two different colors of grey from my craft paints (Hippo Grey and Quaker Grey), plus some leftover Oyster Shell White from my living room walls.

I taped off the design per the tutorial.

And painted the colors I chose onto the appropriate areas of the board.

It looks so cool once you remove the tape! I sanded mine as well to soften the paint and give it an aged appearance.

  3. Looks great! And so does your blog. I've been going back to old posts and changing them some and hitting Update. I hear that's a good thing to keep the Google juice going. Don't know if that's true or not.
