DIY - Coffee Mug Gift Baskets

02 June
Today I'm sharing a fun little DIY craft project with you!

These little gift baskets are fun and pretty easy to make but you might have to spend some time thrift shopping for some of the supplies. Darn right?! 😉

Supplies Needed

Here are the things I included in this mug gift set. You could easily change things out for holidays or other celebrations.

To make a gift set like this:

Paint the coaster if desired. The vintage coaster I found was a metal one that I painted with aqua spray paint to coordinate with the mug. Other materials such a wood or plastic coasters can also be painted.

Use the Metal Stamp Set to stamp your desired word on the fork. I chose "EAT" for this one. You're going to want to use silver utensils for stamping, they are softer and the stamps will work better on them. Place your fork or spoon on a block of wood and tap the letter stamp fairly hard with a hammer to imprint the letter into the silverware. There is a great tutorial for metal stamping at I Always Pick The Thimble blog.

Mix up the cake mix and put it into a small ziplock bag (recipe below).

Add your desired do-dads...  a candle, a napkin, and an adorable recipe card. I used one I found on Free Pretty Things For You blog. I just printed it with the mug cake directions added on. But you could use a regular recipe card too and write the recipe on it.

Cake Mix Recipe:

So, about the cake mix... if you haven't heard about mug cake... well, it's just like it sounds... cake for one that you cook in the microwave right in the mug!

I tested out a mug cake mix recipe I found online. And I gotta tell ya... it is G.O.O.D!!! And all you have to do is add water.

Here is the cake recipe!

Mix Angel Food cake mix and your choice of flavor cake mix (I used Pillsbury Funfetti)

Put both in a large ziplock bag and mix well (this can be kept in the freezer).

For your mug gift sets put 3 tablespoons of this mixture into each baggie (you may want to put more in your baggie depending on the size of the mug you choose. I would test it out in a similar size mug. Remember to adjust the water amount if you do that!)

Directions to write on the recipe card:

Pour the cake mix into the mug.

Stir in 2 tablespoons water; mix well.

Microwave on high, 1 minute.

And voila! You have a unique and fun gift basket!!

These sweet little gift baskets be created for other occasions too, here is one I created as a "Get Well" gift.

Supplies Needed

I stamped the spoon with "STIR" and sprayed another coaster (plastic this time) to coordinate with the cute rainbow mug.

I found an image of a vintage Get Well card to print (Pinterest is a great place to look!) and used a tiny clothespin to attach the cough drop to the card.

I don't know about you but my spirits would be brightened if I received this when I was sick!

Here is another birthday gift mug.

Birthday candle mug and coordinating purple coaster...

More birthday mug cake mix, napkin, candle, and vintage fork stamped with "YUM"!

Everything you need for a mini celebration! These would be fun for co-workers!

And the last one I have made up so far...

This mug is cute with a little cross-stitch designed house.

 And poem.

And here is what they look like all bagged up and ready for gift giving.. or get well wishes...

What do you think?! Is this something you'd like to make?
