Now, on to today's project!
I picked up this large wooden cactus quite awhile ago for $1.99.
It was pretty boring but the minute I saw it I knew what I wanted to make with it!
To get started I removed the base and painted it white. Then I got out my Sharpie pens and found a green that I thought complimented the green that the cactus was already painted and started drawing lines on it.
They are just free hand and very wiggly and rough.
As I was drawing the lines I picked up the pen here and there and randomly put it back down to create the dashed lines.
Then I added little X's randomly for the prickly parts!
I rummaged around in my stash and found 4 little wooden pegs.
I wanted to paint the pegs to match the lines I drew as closely as possible so I mixed up a couple of colors I had to create something close.
I added the pegs to a couple of the cactus arms, reattached the base and... ta da!!!
So... what is it you ask?
It's a jewelry holder!!! :o)
I think it turned out pretty cute!! And what a simple project!
I thought it needed some sort of little container on the base so I found this old tin mold in my junk pile and covered it with some pink Washi tapes.
I also added a pink flower to the top....
And some pink felt on the bottom ties it all together... and keeps it from scratching up the surface it sits on!
It has 2 pegs on each side so it will hold quite a bit of jewelry with the pegs and the cactus arms!
So, what do you think?
Be sure to come back tomorrow for day 4 and to see what I've done with some of these old music books!
