Peace, Love, and DIY

Happy Monday friends! I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving holiday 😃 It's back to work for me for a few weeks before the Christmas holiday. I'm actually looking forward to getting my tree up and decorating a little bit but I feel like I'm behind the game a little... in blog land anyway... so many of my favorite bloggers have their homes completely decorated already!

But today I have something special to share!

Four bloggers share their interpretations of a wooden peace sign cut-out

One of my favorite bloggers and I, Cassie Bustamante, decided it would be fun to collaborate on a project where we both used the same craft surface to create a project. We picked this Unfinished Wooden Craft Peace Sign.

Then we thought it would be even more fun if we invited some other bloggers to participate too! So today we are all sharing our peace sign projects! At the end of my project I'll have links so you'll be able to go check out everyone else's take on this simple wooden peace sign.

So here are my supplies for my project:

I picked out the ceiling tiles I wanted to use for this project from my selection.

I laid the peace cut-out on top of the tile I chose for each section and traced around the cut out.

And then used my tin snips to cut out each piece. The Tin Snip Set comes with a straight cut snip, a right curving snip, and a left curving snip. You will want to have all three when you need to cut curves, it's not like when you cut paper or fabric with regular scissors, it's very hard to get a curve unless you use the right or left curving snips.

As I cut each one, I numbered the back of each piece and the peace cut-out itself so I wouldn't lose track of where each piece went.

Then I laid it out on an old shower curtain so I wouldn't get adhesive on my counter!

And used the Construction Adhesive to attach the pieces to the wooden cut-out. I clamped and let this dry for 24 hours.

Once the adhesive had dried I used Mod Podge Waterbase Sealer on the pieces to keep any more paint from chipping off.

Now I wanted to use some yarn to make my version of a dream catcher. I taped a length of yarn to my counter and started tying long pieces to it.

Once I got them all tied on I used two screws on the back of the peace cut-out and tied the ends that were taped to the counter around each screw. Then I cut the ends into a 'V' shape.

I thought it needed a little bit more so I created some large pom-poms with my Clover Large Pom-Pom Maker. If you've never used one of these pom-pom makers before I'm planning a post to show how easy they are to use, stay tuned for that!

I made 2 large pom poms and 2 medium pom poms for this project.

And I tied them to my new peace sign dream catcher just kind of randomly.

And so here is my finished peace cut-out project!!

What do you think?!

I love how these ceiling tile pieces have old, chipping paint left on them.

This one has a pretty, mint green under the white.

And now, be sure to check out all the other projects!

Love all the chippiness and then the yarn kind of softens the effect. Gorgeous!

I love it! I can't believe how well those tin tiles fit... I would never have cut them so neatly! And of course pom poms are ALWAYS a good idea! :)
