Hello everyone!! My Thanksgiving vacation has officially started, woohoo!! I spent the day yesterday playing in my craft studio and I'll be sharing what I made soon.

But I have a fun thrift shop flip makeover to share today!

Upcycled 1970's display shelf

In my last Treasure Trove Tuesday post one of the thrifted treasures I shared was this dated 1970's plastic display shelf. I knew I could make it cute and at $4.99 I could hardly pass it up!

The whole thing is made of molded plastic and the back has a mirror. I loved all the curlicues and swirly designs on the top and bottom but I didn't care for the center section that looks kind of like a frame.

I used my jig saw to cut that section out. Don't worry, I'm saving it for some other project 😉

I'm going to use this shelf to display my collections of Gurley and Tavern candles. I wanted to be able to have a seasonal background that I could change out with the seasons or holidays. I found this large Christmas gift bag at Target and thought it would be perfect for a winter background.

I cut one of the sides of the bag the same size as the mirror backing and just taped it onto the mirror.

The cabinet and shelves got a couple of coats of Krylon Chalky Finish Spray Paint in Classic White and I added the new snowfall backdrop and voila, a cute display shelf!

It is hanging on a small little sliver of wall in my dining room...

... ready to display some cute Christmas Gurley candles. I found the cutest nativity scene recently at a cute little vintage shop on Etsy called A Better Time, I can't wait to display it in here!

I found the Joy sign in the ornaments at Target.

I can easily change the background, here is another I considered, it's wrapping paper I found at Target, but the big snowflakes won for now!

Of course I'll share once I get my cute Gurley Christmas scene all set up. Check out my Gurley and Tavern Candles Collectibles Guide to learn more about these sweet little candles.

PS. I have included links to the products (or some like them) that I've used for your convenience. If you make a purchase from one of the links in this post I will earn a small commission but it will not cost you a penny more! Click here to see my full Disclosure Policy.

HUGE improvement! It'll be fun to change the backgrounds occasionally.
