Half Bath Redo - A Recap & A Sneak Peek

08 January
I'm so ashamed... it's been over a YEAR since I last posted anything for my half bath redo and it still isn't finished... I should go to the blogger's time-out corner for sure 😞

There are reasons I haven't posted any more about it though... I got stuck at the floor and I've been lazy about removing the wall heater.

I've finally found a solution for the floor that I'm really excited about though (the heater may wait awhile longer), I hope to have the final reveal (minus the heater of course) by next weekend.

In the meantime though, it's been so long since I've shared anything that I think we need a recap to remind you what has happened so far in the half bath and if you stick with me to the end of this post you'll get a little sneak peek of what I'm planning for the floor!

Half Bath Makeover Progress

The first post in this makeover series was a before tour, you can see that here: Half Bath Redo - Before Pictures.

This is what it looked like before I moved in... SO. MUCH. OAK. 😭

And here is what it looked like after I moved in.

The first order of business of course was DEMO!! (and a new vanity) That was fun, I've always wanted to demo something like they do on HGTV!!!

You can see that post here: Half Bath Redo - Demo and a New Vanity.

I repurposed an old dresser into my new vanity with a counter top bowl sink and waterfall faucet.

Take note of how the floor looks underneath the vanity. This is where I got stuck... more about that in a moment.

Next I added a tile back splash and a new mirror, Half Bath Redo - Vanity, Tile, and a Mirror.

I also hung up a vintage mirror and made a frame for it from old molding scraps.

Now, back to the floor... remember how it looked underneath the vanity? The flooring didn't go underneath the old vanity so when that was removed there was basically a hole with the original floor peeking out. We filled in with a piece of plywood and then I tried to cover it with a little skirt.

It was a good idea and looked pretty cute... problem is that when you stand at the sink the skirt gets kicked in and the plywood shows. So that's where I've been stuck. I don't have any of the wood floor to fill in with, I didn't want to have to buy a whole package and try and match the color, and I didn't really want to tear all the flooring out so I've been trying to think of a solution.

Then I saw this on Pinterest 😍!

It's self-adhesive, removable floor tiles! I thought this would be the perfect solution... it's removable and won't damage the original floor, it's easy to install... and it's FUN, just look at that cute pattern!

So, I reached out to Mirth Studio and they were nice enough to send me some to try out and post about here!

So, stay tuned to see how this works out for me!

To be continued...

  3. I can't believe that!!! Easy to install AND pull up if it doesn't work out or if you change your mind?!? WOW! It's a beautiful pattern. Maybe that could be a solution in our own yucky-floored bathrooms! I can't wait to see how it looks!
