Upcycled Yard Tools Wreath
10 July
Today I'm sharing something that will make yard work seem just a little bit sweeter 😊
Do you believe me?!
Ok, maybe your actual yard work won't be any sweeter but you'll certainly look at old yard tools a little differently now!
Today is our monthly Thrifty Chicks project and our challenge this month is old yard tools!
I'm sharing what I did with an old rake and faucet handles and after my project, you'll be able to check out what the other ladies have created! Here's a little teaser of our supplies we each used.
I'm right in the middle of a garage remodel and everything that was once in the garage is now in the backyard, covered with tarps so I tried to think of something I could make without having to un-tarp everything and hunt for my supplies.
I had an old rake propped right outside the garage door and my dad had just helped me get these old faucet handles off their old spigots so they were not packed up.
All I needed to dig out was some spray paint and luckily that wasn't too hard! The rake got a couple coats of sunny yellow and for the faucet handles, I chose hot pink, aqua, and orange.
Now, to make a wreath I needed a bow... almost every good wreath has a bow right??
But it couldn't be just any bow... it had to be special... voila!! I had a partial roll of some old lawn chair webbing!
I created a simple bow by folding the webbing accordion style so that I had a stack about 3 folds tall, clipped a little triangle shape through all the layers on each side in the middle and tied it tightly with a skinny piece of ribbon. Then I just pulled the layers apart and fluffed them up.
I tied it onto the rake with the skinny ribbon tails. The center loop on my bow was made by rolling the cut end that ended up on top toward the center and gluing it in place.
Here are my painted faucet handle "flowers".
I used a couple of leaves from some silk flowers I have and added my flowers on top.
It hangs from a piece of coordinating yellow ribbon tied to the back of the rake.
I love how it turned out!
The bright colors make it so fun!
I'm a little torn though... I can't decide if the bow is my favorite part or the faucet flowers!
So, from this...
To this!
Now, let's check out the other ladies' projects! Just click the links below to be taken to their blogs.
