Well, next week marks the beginning of the Christmas season here at LVC! I'll be sharing all sorts of holiday goodies as part of the 2020 Festive Ideas blog hop but I wanted to share this last Halloween post first!
I did a little decorating for Halloween at my house this year and thought you might enjoy a little tour 😄
Halloween Tour
I didn't buy anything new for my decor this year, just used what I already have in different ways!
I didn't decorate the whole house but I did add some fun (and slightly creepy) decorations in the dining room and living room.
We'll start in the dining room. I have a small little buffet that is perfect for holiday displays!
This year I put my Halloween tree inside this jack-o-lantern container. (Please pay no mind to the unfinished wall on the left. I
still need to paint since I had my sliding glass door replaced! This is real life here! 😳)
I just love this little spider tea light, sometimes it's the tiniest things that add so much joy!
I found two orange candles on a recent Goodwill hunt!
I printed this quirky skeleton on an old book page and framed it years ago and put it in a thrifted frame! I always pick up pretty colored frames like this one, they are good for framing holiday cards too! I have a green one for St. Patrick's Day, a terra-cotta colored one that would be good for Thanksgiving, and a baby blue one for Easter!
The amber glass jar that was also a recent Goodwill score is filled with skeletons. I found the antique bottle when I had my booth at the antique mall. Apparently "squill" is a plant and they used the bulb to make medicine (I had to look it up)!
Of course, my tiered tray is also decorated for Halloween! Speaking of plants... the black twisty branches are from my Contorted Filbert bush. It's also known as "Corkscrew Hazel," and "Harry Lauder's Walking Stick!" Each year when I prune it up, I save some of the branches, I painted these black!
The orange box with the black cat holds heels for shoes! Weird I know... but perfect for Halloween don't you think?!
My mom made the cute little ghosts on my tray years ago. They are made with stiffened fabric and then she painted their faces.
Here's another on the top tier.
Trays are a great way to display lots of little items that would get lost in the rest of the decor.
And I can't neglect this little guy! He is my all-time favorite! I mean, is he not adorable?!!
I put a little wooden ghost that my mom painted on the window sill.
And hung the fun embroidery hoop jack-o-lanterns that I made on the wall next to the window! Get the tutorial for making these here:
DIY Embroidery Hoop Pumpkins.
I also changed up the decor on my dining table.
This big mouth is another fav! Since I doubt there will be any trick-or-treaters this year and I am trying to eat Keto, he is holding Atkins snack bars for now!! 😂
Well, so far everything has been "fun" Halloween decor so you may be wondering what's so "slightly creepy" as the title of this tour states...
Well...
It's my fireplace mantle!
It all started with this lady. My mom found this in my grandma's basement when she was cleaning out her house after she passed away. The fact that she was hangin' in the basement is creepy enough but to add to that, no one knows who she is! She
must be family since it's a large portrait and I don't think you found these at thrift stores back in the day!
Anyway, my mom didn't know what to do with her so I said I wanted her... so long as weird things didn't start happening at my house once I brought her in! So far so good, I haven't been murdered in my sleep so she must be happy to be here! She's making her first appearance in this Halloween display!
Then there's this little lady that I found at Fred Meyer this year (I guess I lied when I said I didn't buy anything new this year earlier... I did buy her!)
And the lady bust got a new mask and since she's painted with chalkboard paint I drew a spiderweb on her chest!
Maybe I should call this mantle "The ladies of the night!" Although it has a far different meaning in this setting than it usually does!!
I got these bats at the Dollar Store a couple of years ago.
And these glittery skulls were also Dollar Store finds I think! The branches in the basket are from my yard.
I would love it if you'd Pin this!!
PIN ME!
I have one more Halloween project that I might try to cram in soon!
Happy Halloween!!
