Laundry Room Design Board

27 May
I have started a makeover of the laundry room at my boyfriend's house and I thought it would be fun to share my ideas with you and see what you think!

I have created a design board so that we can see all the ideas that I have together in one spot and hopefully get a vision for what the room will look like when it's completed.

Design boards are great for making sure that the things you want to do will look good together. They are fun too!

I use a free photo editing site called BeFunky. I just searched for "design board" and then picked one of their templates. You can upload the photos you want and then layer them in. You can even remove the backgrounds (like I did with the light in mine)! *I am not being compensated by BeFunky, it's just the photo editing site I use and I love them*😉

I have already purchased the floor tiles (top left corner) and I already have a pendant light that is very similar to the one shown in my design board that we are going to use.

Here is a before-shot of the laundry room.

It's certainly not the worst laundry room I've ever seen but it's just kind of boring.

I have already started the makeover by painting last weekend. I chose "Polar Bear" by Behr. There are no windows in this room so I wanted a shade of white to lighten it up but not too white. I wanted it to feel warm and not have too much of an operating room feel.

I decided to leave the ceiling the minty green color. It's actually more blue in person and reminds me of the sky... plus I hate painting ceilings 😏

I really love this laundry room... the shelves between the cabinets and the slatted wood piece that hides the laundry hookups is so cool!! This is from Catie Zee Home.

These are floor tiles that I picked. They are FloorPops Sevilla Peel and Stick Vinyl Floor Tiles and I got them from Walmart!

It only cost $81 for enough to do the room which is approximately 11' x 5'! Here is a picture from the Walmart website that shows how they look in a room. Aren't they pretty?! 😍

So, I'm thinking of painting the cabinets in the room with Gentleman's Gray by Benjamin Moore (or something as close to that as I can get from the paint colors available at Home Depot!)

When you are picking accent paint colors, it's helpful to have something that will be your focal point (like these floors I've chosen) and then pull a color from there to use as your accent.

And I ordered these Ravinte Bar Style Cabinet Handles. Right now there are no knobs on the cabinets and I hate that!

I chose this cute woven cotton rug to go in front of the washer and dryer. I think the solid color will be good since the pattern on the floors is the focal point! I don't want to take away from that by having another pattern in the rug.

I also ordered one of these Polder Wall Mount Accordion Drying Racks. I have one in my laundry room and I love it! You'd be surprised by the amount of weight (wet clothes, especially jeans, are heavy!) that it can hold! I use mine all the time and I load that sucker up.

And the light... oh the light... the house is full of those builder-grade boob lights... boob light gotta go yo! Like I mentioned, I do already have a light that is similar to this one that we will be trying out. Laundry Room Design Board
Over in the laundry sink area, I'm going to hang a mirror. I found mine at Home Goods but here is a similar Black, Round Strap Mirror.

And finally, I'm going to do a couple of DIY projects. I'm going to make something similar to these... only different 😉 These Wash, Dry, Fold, Repeat Laundry Signs are from Etsy.

Well, what do you think?! Did you like the design board concept? It helps me to make sure I'm choosing things that will actually look good together.

I will admit that I did buy some baskets before I made the design board and now I don't think they are going to work. They are a mint green color that was more in line with the room before it was painted. That'll teach me 😕 Maybe I can return them or use them someplace else.

  2. I love using design boards--not only are they helpful, but they are fun to do. The floor tiles are so cute; it's amazing what cool stuff you can get nowadays. That is very smart to leave the ceiling the color it is....it adds a new dimension to the room. Can't wait to see how it all looks when done. Gold Star for you!
