Kitchen Makeover Reveal

26 November

If you are new to LVC, we have been working on updating my boyfriend's house room by room. It's a newer house built in 2008 I believe, so while it doesn't need a whole ton of work, it is becoming a little dated and he's a typical guy and has never "decorated" per se.

Then he met me and I had the opportunity to work with Wayfair on some home makeover projects. I asked if he'd be down with updating his back patio last spring and he was! Budget Patio Makeover Reveal.

I think he was pleasantly surprised at the results, he said "you're really good at this," so I proposed another makeover in cooperation with Wayfair. He was all for it so we transformed his laundry room: Laundry Room Makeover Reveal. This time he said, "It looks so good in there, I just stand in there are stare sometimes." 😊

So we moved on to the garage. I do not have a post to share for that because it was also written for Wayfair but they have lost a bunch of people and placed their program on hold.

But we were on a roll and he was loving the results so we kept going and transformed a strange little room in his house into a gym: DIY Home Gym Reveal.

And lately we have been working on the main great room area which includes the living room, dining room, and kitchen. First we completed an Easy Living Room Refresh (with plans to do more later) and then we created a dedicated entry space: Front Entry Reveal.

We tackled the kitchen most recently which is what I'm sharing here. I'll just start right out by singing my own praises...

It turned out SO GOOD, better than I had in my own head even!!😃

Mostly what we did in here was transform the cabinets with paint and some super cool peel and stick wallpaper.

As usual, I created a Kitchen Inspiration Board. He usually lets me do whatever I want but he cringed a little bit when I asked about painting the kitchen cabinets so we compromised and agreed to only paint the cabinet boxes and leave the door and drawer fronts the original wood color.

I had some cabinets on my inspiration board that were painted this way but I could only find that ONE picture on Pinterest which means this isn't very common when it comes to painting kitchen cabinets and to be honest I wasn't feeling 100% confident that it would look all that good but we forged ahead anyway 😰

When I painted that first stroke of paint onto the first cabinet, I was feeling even less confident with this decision... the paint was so BRIGHT when wet! But thankfully it dried much darker... but, even after I had the first bank of cabinet bases painted and it had dried, I still wasn't convinced. We went ahead and put the doors back and I stepped back and let out a huge sigh of relief because we both loved it!

It also helped tremendously when we painted the pantry bump out wall (his idea... and a great one!) Here is the before picture of that wall.

He really needed a new sink... which also required a new faucet 😉 Here is the old one:

He chose this single basin black sink (great taste I must say) and I picked the faucet.

And for the piece de resistance... I found this COOL peel and stick wallpaper for the backside of this bar! 😍 I think he was doubting this choice although he never said anything. I did it one day while he was gone and I went home before he got back. I got a text when he returned saying "that looks SO good!!"

Another sigh of relief!!

You can see I also added door and drawer pulls where there were none before and created a little coffee bar area.

Now that the kitchen is done, there are only a few rooms left... the dining room, bedrooms (master and spare) and bathrooms (master and guest)... but things have changed and we won't be doing makeovers of those rooms.

Why? Well, things have changed between my boyfriend and I. I'll be sharing the news real soon, first to my dedicated followers via our LVC newsletter. If you aren't a subscriber, I would love it if you were, you can sign up here:

  1. It looks amazing! I wouldn't have gone for the blue color but love the dramatic results!

  2. It looks fantastic. I've seen many shows on TV that have the lower cabinets a different color than the upper cabinets You tried to do that but men are usually resistant to change but you got it done with compromise. 😉
