DIY Anthropologie Knock-Off Lamp (No. 2!)
It's finally time to share my second DIY Anthropologie lamp dupe!
I know... I'm so slow 😥
In my defense though, it took a while to find a lamp base to use with my new shade!

These are the supplies you need to make your own.
- Thrifted lamp shade (alternatively, you can buy one HERE)
- Hot glue gun and glue sticks
- Floral fabric of your choice
- Bias tape makers
- Iron and ironing surface
These are the Anthropologie lampshades that caught my eye: Amber Lewis for Anthropologie Floral Lamp Shade.

My version doesn't look exactly like theirs... they look more gathered than pleated to me. Here's how to make one of your own.
Step One: Select the fabric you want to use and cut it into strips diagonally twice the width you'd like it to be.

I used one yard of basic cotton fabric that had a small floral print to mimic the Anthro shades and it took almost the whole yard of fabric for a medium-size shade.
Cutting diagonally gives the fabric a little bit of stretch and prevents fraying.
Step Two: Use the bias tape maker to create your bias strips to cover the lamp shade.

Insert the end of your fabric strip into the widest end of the bias tape maker and pull it out the other end. It helps to leave the pointy ends on the fabric for feeding it into the maker. You'll see that as you pull the fabric out, it will perfectly fold the fabric to create bias tape!
Step Three: Pin the end of the fabric that you just pulled through the bias tape maker to your ironing board and iron the tape flat as you pull on the tape maker with the little handle. Do not attempt to cut your strips to fit the lampshade, you will glue them on first and then trim to ensure a perfectly covered shade.

Step Four: Glue the strips to the lamp shade.

Use a hot glue gun and glue each strip on the top and then the bottom, overlapping each strip. There is no need to glue the centers.
If you notice the strips beginning to get lopsided then adjust the amount of overlap on the top and bottom, allowing a larger overlap at the top and smaller at the bottom.
Step Five: Trim the ends.
Once you've got a section of the shade covered, use a sharp pair of scissors and trim along the bottom edge of the shade. You can then use the trimmed-off pieces to continue around the shade until it is completely covered.

Step Six: cover the raw top and bottom edges with another strip of bias tape.
Make a smaller strip of bias tape to use for this. Line the edge of the tape to the edge of the shade and glue it down.
That's it!! SOOO easy and just look at my cute shade! The one on the left is mine and on the right is the Anthro shade.
I think it turned out pretty cute, here's my price breakdown:

I NEED that very cool bias tape maker tool! I have a lampshade just like that stored in the basement that I've been wanting to do something with. Now I know exactly what to do with it thanks to your pretty knock off shade. Plus, it's a great excuse to try out that tool!
