Repurposed Toolbox Fall Decor - Trash-to-Treasure

12 September

Even though my house is still a mess with all the DIY projects going on as we fix it up, I still have the urge to do some seasonal and holiday decorating.

I didn't even put up a Christmas tree last year because we closed on this house on December 17th and we didn't move in right away. This is the first time in my life that I have not put up a Christmas tree and I missed it!

But, I can at least decorate the areas of our house that aren't all torn up at the moment. The front porch is one of those areas so I made a cute little thing for it!

Supplies Needed to Make Your Own:

For some reason, between the two of us we have about six toolboxes. We've been going through the garage sorting and organizing and this one wound up in the garbage. Probably because it's all bent up and doesn't close very well.

Well, that didn't bother me! I pulled it right back out and used it to create a cute fall front porch decoration.

I painted it with Rust-Oleum Fire Orange spray paint, two coats on the outside plus inside the lid.

I used my Cricut machine that I got for Christmas last year to make the words. This is the first time I've used it but it was so fun! I can see so many future projects with this!

This is not my original idea, I found it Q is for Quandie.

I don't know what fonts she used, I just picked two that I liked together.

I decided to use faux flowers in my toolbox. I cannot seem to keep real plants alive in a container like this.

I filled the inside with a couple floral foam blocks and some packing paper.

I picked up some orange and yellow mums and pumpkins at Michael's for a total of about $9.

I think it turned out so cute! I also cut out a face so I can turn it into a unique jack-o-lantern for Halloween.

I got a new buffalo check rug on sale at JoAnn's and then layered our "hope you brought pie" doormat on top.

Then I added my new repurposed toolbox.

And some faux pumpkins.

I also added my Rusty Paint Can Lid Pumpkin on the wall next to the door.

*Tip: If you have vinyl siding get a package of these Vinyl Siding Hooks so you can still hang things on the outside of your house without making holes in the vinyl!

I will be doing a few projects to spruce up the porch area soon... new house numbers, new doorbell, a mailbox refresh, and painting the door. What color would you suggest for a door with a light blue house?

  1. Love the rescued toolbox! Fall colors are so fun & festive and your front step is looking very inviting. When you said there was a toolbox in the trash i knew it wouldn't be there for long! LOL!

    1. Thank you! It's so much easier to decorate a small porch like this instead of the massive one I had before!

    1. Thanks Marie! I am excited for all the possibilities the Cricut brings... especially that I no longer have to hand paint each time I want words on a project!

  4. The porch is lovely with all the upcycled decor! For the door, maybe a navy blue; it would make the brass inlay pop. The house is really coming along!
