Upcycled Dutch Shoe Christmas Decoration

26 November

Lately, I've been busy creating some fun little Christmas goodies for my handmade shop, LVC Handmade, and what luck it's time for another Do-It-Over-Designers Challenge!

If you are new, we are a group of designers who take something old and/or unused and 'do it over' into something new. These items can be found in closets, barns, garages, yard sales, thrift stores, you name it!

This time, I'm upcycling a little white ceramic dutch shoe that's been hanging around in my craft supplies for a couple of years now and creating a cute Christmas decoration with it!

I always thought this would be cute with something in it but I just never got around to it, but this challenge was the kick in the pants I needed this time!

As I was playing around with different containers and bases for the Christmas things I was making for my shop, I pulled out this shoe once again, just like I had many times before. Inspiration never hit previously and it always ended up back in the stash. But this time I found some large wooden thread spools that looked like wheels to me!

I used E6000 glue to permanently adhere them to the bottom of the shoe with a little hot glue to get a quick hold.

Eeek! So cute already!! 😍

I chose some scraps of florist's foam to fill up the shoe and create a base on which to create my little Christmas vignette.

I added a little pink bottlebrush tree.

And then I used some glittery scrapbook paper to cover the green foam.

I found some vintage silver tinsel garland in my stash to trim the edge of the shoe opening.

I've had this darling little vintage ceramic deer in my stash for so long... I decided it was time for her to have a moment.

Then I used a few tiny vintage Christmas ball ornaments in the arrangement.

I just tucked a few of them in around the base.

And some even smaller ones in the tree.

I used some gold wire to create a little star for the top of the tree.

I added a bow from vintage silver ribbon and lots of glitter to finish it off!
