DIY Anthropologie-Inspired Christmas Tree Topper

15 December

As I mentioned in my last post, I'm decorating my Christmas tree this year with a Scandinavian theme.

I made a cozy DIY Christmas Tree Skirt From Thrifted Sweaters for the base of my tree, and now I needed something for the top of the tree!

Read on to see how I DIYed my own Anthropologie-inspired Christmas tree topper.

I loved this Holly Pommed Snowflake Tree Topper from Anthropologie. Right now it's on sale for $33.60 (normally $48) and while that's a pretty good price for Anthropologie, it is still more than I wanted to pay... plus I would rather make something. That is what my blog is all about after all 😊

Supplies Needed to Make Your Own:

I really loved that Anthro tree topper, but I also found this Felt Star Pendant + Tree Topper from Purl Soho and I thought it was so pretty!

The Anthro topper seemed a little intricate from a sewing and cutting standpoint plus I wanted to put my own spin on it so I combined the two and came up with my own Anthropologie-inspired topper!

I followed the tutorial for the star tree topper. You have a choice of four sizes that you can make this star in (small, medium, large, and extra-large), I chose to make the medium-sized star and I used some Warm & Natural batting that I already had. This kind of batting is unwashed and unbleached and it's better for the environment.

The tutorial is very easy to follow but it will take a little time to make as the whole thing is hand-stitched.

Once I had the star tree topper made, I wanted to put the Anthro spin on it!

I used one bag of white pom-poms (that's 125 pom-poms on this topper!!) 😃

I used my hot glue gun for attaching the pom-poms (and the beads in the next step). Since the star is felt, the glue will really grab on so everything will be nice and secure.

Like the Anthro tree topper, I put the pom-poms on in a very random fashion... they aren't evenly placed at all... I liked that look.

The Anthro tree topper also had gold beads scattered in with the pom-poms. I just happened to have some cool vintage beads that I used but anything would work really... even sequins would be cool!

I used a hair clip that I attached to the back so that I can clip this to the top of my tree.

I love how it turned out! I think it's perfect for a Scandinavian tree, what do you think?
