7 Days of Thrift Shop Flips - Day 7

18 August
Well, sad as it may be, today is the last day for 7 days of thrift shop flips until next year 😞

No worries though, I will continue doing thrift shop flips periodically...  I love them!

Upcycled 1970's Art

For today's project, I upcycled a pair of dated 1970's wall hangings for a new look!

Here is what they looked like before.

My daughter found these at the thrift store and had them in her apartment for awhile but grew tired of them. She was about to donate them back to the thrift store when I rescued them.

To give these a makeover I removed the wood slices for painting.

I found three different shades of white paint to use. The backgrounds of these pieces are made of a cork-like material so they have a little texture to them. I liked the idea of the texture with different shades of white and the warm wood frames and slices.

I taped off around the edges and just painted each section a different white. There was one area on each that was already white and I just left that. So actually, I have four different shades of white now!

Once I had given them 2 coats, I replaced the wood slices and they are done!

Most of the projects I've done for this series will be listed in my Etsy shop, Little Boho Cottage, but I am keeping these!

I found that cactus citronella candle at TJMaxx.

I love how these turned out, they have a very boho feel in my opinion and I think they will go well in my house... I just have to find the perfect spot for them now!

So, don't let the ugly 1970's colors you often find in the thrift store stop you, try and look past that and imagine how they would look if painted a different color. (Here's a little hint: paint fixes everything!)

You can see the other projects at the links below.
