Upcycled Outdoor Dining Table

01 September
Outdoor dining in the summer is one of my favorite things to do, how about you?

I desperately needed a patio dining table and chairs so that I could do that though and I didn't want to pay the price for a new one.

So, I found one on Craigslist for just $10 and gave it a makeover!

You can easily give second-hand furniture a new look with paint.

I found a simple round patio table on Craigslist. It was perfect because they weren't selling it with chairs which I didn't need anyway and it's metal so it will be easy to paint with spray paint.

And it was only $10, you certainly can't buy a new one for that price!

Not bad but hunter green is not my favorite color and you can see in the picture below that the paint was starting to flake off.

First, I used a wire brush to remove any loose paint and then I cleaned it up with soapy water and a scrub brush. I sprayed it off with the garden hose and let it sit in the sun to dry.

Once it was dry, I sprayed it with sunny yellow spray paint.

It only took one can of paint and I gave it two coats top and bottom.

I wanted it bright yellow so it would go with the vintage folding chairs I found.

I found them at an antique show and they were only $7 for 4 of them. They are yellow, green, red, and orange (not pictured)!

I found the market umbrella on Wayfair.

I set it up over by my grill.

Cost for my new outdoor dining area:

  • Table:  $10 from Craigslist
  • Spray Paint: $4.99 for 1 can
  • Market Umbrella: $38.95 from Wayfair.com (including shipping)
  • Set of 4 vintage chairs: $7 from an antique show in the park

Total: $60.94

Did you know that you can spray paint fabric too? I painted some patio chairs when we made over my boyfriend's patio. You can check that post out here: Budget Patio Makeover Reveal

  2. I have that exact same table plus the 4 matching chairs! I have had them for years and - would you believe??? - they were YELLOW when I bought them new? They have since changed color more than once, twice or thrice! Great post and I will be getting a fresh NEW can of spray paint in a fresh NEW color I haven't used before! Perhaps RED?
