Fixer-Upper Progress!

01 March

It has been two and a half months since we took possession of our new fixer-upper house! My my, how time flies when you are renovating a home 😉

I thought it was time for another progress update. If you missed the previous updates, you can catch up here:

Our New Fixer-Upper Empty House Tour

Progress at the Fixer-Upper!

Fixer-Upper Progress!

Fixer-Upper Progress

I created a video tour for your viewing pleasure as well 😊 so be sure to watch it, the pictures here are just the highlights!

We'll start in the living/dining room. Here are a few before, during, and after comparisons.

We haven't done a whole lot to the fireplace except hang a mantel, but here are some progress shots. It always gets worse before it gets better! 😂

I would still like to find some tile stickers to transform that tile on the hearth.

And here is one corner of the living room. This room and the dining room started out a beige/tan color and we have painted it Polar Bear White by Behr (the color we painted the entire house).

I have this one area decorated because I participated in a fun blog hop with some blogging buddies. You can check out that post here:

And here is the staircase transformation.

These stairs actually look ok in this before shot but the carpet was old and very dirty (plus it was holding in a lot of smoke smell from the prior owners smoking in the house).

We pulled that old carpet up, plus about 10 bazillion staples and nails, filled the holes, painted, and then I made the runner from some small accent rugs I found at Lowe's.

Fixer-Upper Progress

I only have a before and after of the dining room, not much changed in between except painting the door black and the walls white plus adding my new $25 Facebook Marketplace dining table and my DIY basket light.

Fixer-Upper Progress!

The kitchen looks very different to me but it may not to you. I still have some work to do to update the doors and drawers before I put them back on.

Fixer-Upper Progress!

Upstairs we have made the most progress in our master bedroom.

This bedroom was painted a dark grey color Like the rest of the house, I painted it Polar Bear White but I did a fun black ceiling treatment to bring in some moodiness 😍

Fixer-Upper Progress

I am DIYing a lot of our decor but we did purchase some new items for this space.

Our bed is the Abdiel Tufted Upholstered Storage Bed in Charcoal from Wayfair.

We chose cordless Cellular Shades in Ivory sized to fit our windows, also from Wayfair.

Fixer-Upper Progress

Our curtains are the Textured Weave Back Tab Curtains by Threshold in Cream from Target.

And I got these wall sconces from Amazon, they are the Globe Electric Swing Arm Wall Sconces. These are cool because you can use them as plug-in lights as I've done, or they can be hardwired in.

Fixer-Upper Progress

I chose to do sconces rather than lamps because our bedroom is very small. We have come up with a clever solution for nightstands too.

Fixer-Upper Progress

Instead of using your typical nightstand, I purchased two of these Sorbus Narrow Dresser Towers from Amazon and we pulled the bed away from the wall just far enough for these to nestle in behind the headboard.
Fixer-Upper Progress!

We can place our cell phones on top at night and we have more storage space too. This is one of my better ideas if I do say so myself **pats self on back** 😏

As I said in the video, we are moving in now, and then we begin the monumental task of sorting through each of our current houses and combining households. We will be having a big living estate sale for all the stuff we don't take and then getting our places ready to rent.

I hope you enjoyed the update! I liked putting this post together, we have been so busy cleaning up the prior owner's messes and making new messes as we fix the place up that at times it was feeling like we may never finish some of the projects so it feels good to look back and see the actual progress we've made 😵

  1. Wow, your hard work is paying off, it's looking really good, Tania! I love how you painted the master bedroom ceiling. All the pops of black look so good too, especially on the stairs and the french doors. Great tip for the stair runner! We need to add runners to our stairs so I think I'll head over to Lowe's. You guys must be so excited about finally moving in.
