Knock-Off Urban Outfitters Mushroom Jewelry Holder

13 August

Today is day three in the 7 Days of Thrift Shop Flips series. If you're just now tuning in, National Thrift Shop Day is August 17th and in honor of the day, I'm doing a week's worth of thrift shop flip projects!

Today's project is a knock-off of something they sell on the Urban Outfitters website.

These are the main supplies I used for this project.

I thrifted the clay planter for $2.99 and the bowl for .99 cents. The Chenille Home Yarn is from Michaels. I used the mustard color but this yarn comes in so many different colors!

These Shroomie Jewelry Holders from Urban Outfitters are the inspiration. And honestly, they are pretty inexpensive but they are also only 4.5 inches tall!

I used hot glue and wrapped the chenille yarn around and around the planter in one continuous piece. I made sure to glue them as close together as possible so the planter wouldn't show through.

TIP: If you are making this, paint the planter and bowl to match the yarn before attaching it and you won't have to worry too much about it showing through!

Then I did the same with the bowl, covering the bottom with the same yarn (no need to do the inside of the bowl).

I used an empty plastic thread spool as a spacer between the base and the bowl. Anything that lifts up the bowl a little from the planter would work. I used E6000 to glue the pieces together. E6000 is an industrial-strength glue that I recommend, I use it all the time. But, Gorilla glue or super glue would probably work too.

I used some small 1/2-inch gold cup hooks for the jewelry hangers.

I predrilled the holes using a drill bit that was slightly smaller than the cup hook ends (if you've ever tried to start a cup hook in anything then you understand this step 😂).

Then I flipped it over and screwed them in and then glued the mushroom top to the thread spool spacer.

And here it is inside my jewelry cabinet in our bedroom.

I'm still working on my jewelry cabinet but so far I've got a vintage velvet box, the Repurposed Picture Frame Ring Holder that I made, and now, a matching jewelry holder!

For tomorrow's project, I'm doing a little somethin' something' to this vintage flower picture!
