I've been watching some craft videos on YouTube using small vintage dolls lately and it has inspired me to get out some old dolls that I have in my craft stash and make something with one of them.

The dolls I have are old but not necessarily valuable or rare so I feel good about using them in art projects.

Today I'm sharing a cute Halloween assemblage using one of the dolls I have and a cardboard box.

Halloween Altered Art Doll

I used this little bisque doll. Her eyebrows didn't get painted on straight when she was created and I don't think these are her original clothes, they look newer to me. But, I thought she was cute for an art project.

These are the supplies I used if you want to make your own:

I started with a cardboard box that came inside a larger box of something I ordered. They had used little boxes of various sizes to take up space inside the larger box.

I thought they would be good for crafting so I saved several of them.

I covered one of them with different Halloween-themed scrapbook papers.

I decided to use some shapes to add a little interest. The main focus will be the altered doll but I like the background to be fun and interesting too.

This is a piece from an old bingo game to add some texture.

And then I used a piece of a vintage dictionary page.

And a spider web and spider sticker in the corner. I painted the outside of the box black and covered the back with another piece of scrapbook paper.

Now for the doll... I took the dress off her but I loved her cute little lacy undies 😊

I decided to dye them black. I just used some black craft paint mixed with water and then I dipped the undies in it, wrung them out, and set aside to dry.

I painted her headband black.

Here she is with her new snazzy underwear!

I decided to see what her dress would look like dyed too. I liked it but I removed the top portion. It was too fussy for my taste.

Since this is a Halloween project, she is going to wear a witch costume so she needed a witch's hat. I started with a triangle of black felt that I shaped into a cone and glued along the edge with hot glue.

Then I cut a large circle with a small circle cut from the middle for the hat brim and glued the cone to that with hot glue.

Here she is with her new hat! I added some cute black trim along the top edge of her dress too.

I painted her lips and cheeks so she has a cute little rosy glow.

Then, I used some additional do-dads to dress the whole assemblage up a little bit.

I backed this vintage jack-o-lantern cupcake pick with black paper for her to hold.

And I put a glittery pumpkin in the box too.

And here she is 😀

I think she turned out so cute, what do you think?

I used two vintage green thread spools for feet on the box and added some crepe paper trim to the top and bottom edge of the box.

On top of the box, the word spooky is spelled out with scrabble tiles.

I bent the top of her hat over and tacked it with hot glue for a whimsical look.
